York Revolution News Release

York, Pa. - Joel Guzman launched a towering go-ahead home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to lead the York Revolution to a 4-3 win over the Somerset Patriots on Wednesday night at PeoplesBank Park. The win gives the Revs (10-9, 50-39) a series win over the Patriots (11-9, 49-41), their 10th home series win in 13 this season.

Tied 3-3 in the eighth, Guzman led off and connected on the first pitch he saw from Somerset lefty Brandon Sisk and launched the ball over the Arch Nemesis in left field and deep into the Pennsylvania night. The home run was Guzman's 12th of the season for his league-leading 62nd RBI.

"It was a new pitcher fresh out of the bullpen," said Guzman, "and I was just trying to be aggressive and get a good pitch to hit. I tried not to do too much and put a good swing on it."

Mike DeMark came on to close in the ninth, retiring the Patriots 1-2-3 to secure York's 30th comeback victory of the season, now just six back of the team record of 36 set by the 2010 and 2014 ball clubs.

Scott Rice (4-0) earned the win after a scoreless eighth inning out of the bullpen. Sisk (3-4) took the loss after surrendering what turned out to be the game-winning run to Guzman.

Neither starter factored into the decision. James Simmons allowed three runs on eight hits in 5.2 innings, finishing shy of the six-inning threshold for just the fourth time in 17 starts this season. Former Rev Shaun Garceau matched Simmons with 5.2 quality innings for the Patriots, allowing two runs on five hits.

After the starters traded zeroes for the first three innings, Somerset broke the ice in the fourth on a Bryan LaHair RBI double. The Patriots added to their lead with a pair in the top of the sixth. Aharon Eggleston beat out an infield single to start the inning and went to second on a sac bunt. David Vidal then banged a double off the top of the wall in left center to score Eggleston. Kyle Roller doubled home Vidal two batters later to make it 3-0 for the visitors.

The Revs wasted no time getting back into the game, as Travis Witherspoon smacked the first pitch of the bottom of the sixth to left center for a leadoff double. Witherspoon went to third on a sac bunt and came home on Guzman's sac fly to center. Andres Perez restarted the rally with a single that chased Garceau from the game.

Against lefty reliever Mike Thomas, Kevin Rivers kept the ball rolling with a single through the right side hole, sending Perez to third. Bryan Pounds dropped a soft liner into center to plate Perez and move Rivers to third. Michael Rockett then tapped a slow grounder to the left side that third baseman Vidal let go between his fingertips on a barehanded attempt. Rivers came home to make it 3-3, and Rockett was on first with the game-tying RBI infield single.

Julio DePaula and Rice took care of scoreless innings in the seventh and eighth, setting up Guzman's heroics.

Guzman finished the day 1-for-3 with his home run, sac fly, and two RBIs. Pounds and Rockett each went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Jared Mitchell notched a single and a double.

Vidal led the way for Somerset, going 3-for-4 with a double, RBI, and two runs. LaHair and Vinny Zarrillo each had two hits.

Notes: The Revs are the second team in the Atlantic League this season to reach 50 wins, joining Long Island. Mitchell has now hit safely in 17 of his first 20 games with the Revs (24-80, .300). DeMark's 24 saves put him four back of Rommie Lewis's single-season Revs record, and his 28 career saves put him three behind R.J. Rodriguez for second all-time. The War of the Roses presented by PNC Bank heats up again on Thursday night as the Lancaster Barnstormers come to town for the last time this season. The Revs will send Ty'Relle Harris (2-4, 4.57) to the hill against the Barnstormers' Bryan Evans (3-6, 4.46) for the first of a four-game series. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK mobile app beginning at 6:10 p.m. with Darrell Henry and Will DeBoer on the call. Thursday is Gluttony Day at PeoplesBank Park, featuring a chili dog eating contest and gobs of additional food specials. It's also Community Courier Night presented by Engle Printing & Publishing. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online at yorkrevolution.com, on the phone at (717) 801-HITS, and in person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
