Revs Down Somerset with Record First Inning

For the second time in three home games the York Revolution set a franchise record for runs in an opening frame, scoring eight times in the first inning Monday night at PeoplesBank Park on their way to an 11-2 rout of the Somerset Patriots, moving into sole possession of first place in the Freedom Division for the first time since July 20.

Despite an early morning flight home from Sugar Land, the York bats were wide awake at the plate. Somerset starter Patrick Johnson quickly loaded the bases by walking Alonzo Harris and Jared Mitchell around an infield single by Alexi Casilla. After a strikeout of Michael Burgess, Telvin Nash lifted a sac fly to center field to score Harris and give the Revs a 1-0 lead. Just when it looked like Johnson would avoid the big inning, the Revs' next five batters came through with a hit. Luiz Cruz singled to center to bring home Casilla, and Dayron Varona followed with a three run home run over the Arch Nemesis to make it 5-0. Ryan Dent singled to right to keep the rally going and Chase Simpson, the ninth man to hit in the inning, lined a single to left center. Batting for the second time in the inning, Harris launched another three run blast to left to blow the game open early, 8-0.

The Revs would score again in each of the next two frames. Mitchell led off the second with a double and came in to score on a Varona single through the right side. In the third it was Simpson who reached on an error leading off the inning, and came into score on Casilla's double to left center.

The Patriots put up lone runs in the second and fourth against Revs starter Victor Mateo. In the second it was Kyle Roller leading off with a single and scoring on an Aharon Eggleston double to left center. Roller scored again in the fourth, this time reaching on a leadoff walk and coming across on a double from Greg Golson.

The Revs held the 10-2 lead through the middle innings. Mateo worked five strong to earn his sixth win of the year, while relievers Michael Click, Joe Van Meter, Ricardo Gomez, and Chase Huchingson each delivered scoreless frames.

Telvin Nash put the exclamation mark on the victory in the home eighth, belting his eighth home run in 23 games this season, to push the final to 11-2.

The Revs are now 4-0 at home against the Patriots this season and look to make it back-to-back wins Tuesday when they send lefty Frank Gailey (9-9, 4.53) to the hill to face off with fellow lefty Efrain Nieves (2-3, 3.44) at 6:30 p.m. It's Escape at the Ballpark as Escape Games Live and the Revs team up to bring an escape room experience to PeoplesBank Park as well as WellSpan Sports Medicine Silver Slugger Tuesday. For tickets visit yorkrevolution.com, the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office or call 717-801-HITS.

Darrell Henry and Matt Present will be on the air at 6:10 p.m. on 1350 WOYK as well as online on woyk1350.com, the WOYK YouTube Channel and on the WOYK App.

NOTES:

Mitchell has now reached base safely in 26 consecutive home games, tying him with Chris Ashby (6/30-8/23/08) for the fifth longest home streak in Revs history. Nash's home run was his 36th career dinger with York, tying him with Ramon Castro for eighth most in Revs history. The Revs' eight run first was the fifth time this season that they scored five or more runs in a first inning, and the second time against the Patriots. The eight runs is a new franchise best, eclipsing a seven-run frame against the New Britain Bees on August 12th.
