Yard Goats Drop Series and Lose to B-Mets on Sunday

Binghamton, NY- The Hartford Yard Goats (63-49) were defeated by the Binghamton Mets (53-60) by the score of 9-2 on Sunday afternoon in the rubber game of a three game weekend series at NY SEG Stadium in Binghamton, New York. The game was tied 2-2 going to the sixth inning before the B-Mets took a 3-2 lead on a two out double by Xorge Carrillo and then added two runs in the seventh and four runs in the ninth to send Hartford to its second consecutive series loss. Yard Goats RHP Zach Jemiola (7-7) turned in a quality start and worked six innings, allowing three runs (2ER) on six hits with three walks and six strikeouts. OF Wilson Soriano had two hits, including a double and 2RBI in his Yard Goats debut. The Yard Goats were 3 for 13 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.

The Yard Goats scored the first run of the game in the second inning off B-Mets starter Logan Taylor. Correlle Prime walked and moved to second base on a bunt by the pitcher Zach Jemiola. Wilson Soriano followed with an RBI single to left field, his first hit in his first at-bat as a Yard Goat, scoring Prime and giving Hartford a 1-0 lead.

The B-Mets took a 2-1 lead with a pair of runs in the fourth inning. Dominic Smith led off the inning and reached second base on a two base throwing error by third baseman Ryan McMahon. Matt Oberste followed with an RBI triple, scoring Smith and tying the game at 1-1. Victor Cruzado then hit a ball down the first base line which was knocked down by Corelle Prime but he beat the throw to first and Oberste scored giving the B-Mets a 2-1 lead.

The Yard Goats tied the game with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning off reliever Kevin McGowan. Correlle Prime started the frame with a single and moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Jemiola. Wilson Soriano then laced a double to left field, scoring Prime and tying the game at 2-2.

However, Binghamton would score the next seven runs of the game with a run in the sixth, two runs in the seventh and four more runs in the ninth. B-Mets catcher Xorge Carillo cracked an o-2 pitch from Jemiola off the right field fence scoring Victor Cruzado, giving Binghamton the lead for good in the sixth inning. Binghamton added to its lead with a pair of runs off reliever Shane Broyles in the seventh, a two out two run double by Cruzado. Binghamton added four runs in the ninth inning off Tyler Matzek to win the series.

The Yard Goats open up a three game series against the Akron RubberDucks (Cleveland-AL) on Tuesday night (7:05 PM) at Canal Park in Akron, Ohio. LHP Sam Howard will start for the Yard Goats. The game will be broadcast live on News Radio 1410 WPOP.
