Yard Goats Denied Third Straight Win in 14-3 Loss

Manchester, NH - The Hartford Yard Goats (42-34) were defeated by the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (32-44) by the score of 14-3 on Wednesday evening at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium in Manchester, New Hampshire in the final of a three games series. The Yard Goats took two of three games and won the series but the Fisher Cats prevented a 3-game sweep with the victory. New Hampshire broke a 1-1 tie by scoring five runs in the fourth inning. The Fisher Cats added six more runs in the seventh inning, including a grand slam home run by Dwight Smith Jr. Smith Jr. hit a pair of homers and had 6 RBI. Ashley Graeter smashed his second home run for the Yard Goats who have won five of their past eight games.
The Fisher Cats scored the first run of the game on a solo home run by Rowdy Tellez on the first pitch of the second inning off Hartford starter Carlos Hernandez. The Yard Goats tied the game on a leadoff home run by Ashley Graeter in the third inning.
New Hampshire broke the 1-1 tie by scoring five runs in the fourth inning. Rowdy Tellez began with a single and Dwight Smith Jr. reached on a fielder's choice grounder. Matt Dean and Jorge Saez follow with singles and load the bases for Ian Parmley. Parmley hit a hard grounder to Ryan McMahon at first base which nipped off his glove and allowed Smith Jr. to score, giving the Fisher Cats a 2-1 lead. Jorge Flores then ripped a base clearing 3-run double down the left field line, scoring Dean, Saez and Parmley making it 5-1 New Hampshire. Christian Lopes concluded the rally with an RBI single scoring Flores in the five run frame.
The Yard Goats got a run back in the fifth inning to make it a 6-2 game. Ashley Graeter cracked a one out double down the right field line and Raimel Tapia drove him home with a 2-out single to right field.
The Fisher Cats added six runs in the seventh inning off reliever Konner Wade. Christian Lopes had an RBI double, Jason Leblebijian and RBI single and Dwight Smith Jr. cranked a grand slam home run as part of the six run frame.
The Yard Goats open up a five game in 4-day series against the Portland Sea Dogs on Thursday evening at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine (7:00 PM). RHP Alex Balog will start for the Yard Goats and RHP Teddy Stankiewicz will start for the Sea Dogs. The game will be broadcast live on News Radio 1410 WPOP.
