Yard Goats Come from Behind Again to Win in Erie

Erie, PA- The Hartford Yard Goats came from behind for the second straight night and defeated the Erie SeaWolves by the score of 8-7 at UPMC Park on Saturday night in Erie, Pennsylvania. It was the fifth game of a two city six-game road trip for the Yard Goats who return to Dunkin' Donuts Park on Tuesday night. Yard Goats OF Stephen Cardullo broke a 6-6 tie by cranking a two-run home run to lead Harford to a series win. Hartford trailed 3-0 and 4-2 before scoring four runs in the fifth inning and taking its first lead on Josh Fuentes' two RBI double as he extended his hit streak to 10 consecutive games. Closer Shane Broyles retired the side in order in the ninth, converting on his 16th save in 17 opportunities. He's tied for the Eastern League lead in saves. The Yard Goats attempt their first sweep since July 17-19 when they won all three games against the Bowie Baysox.

The SeaWolves scored three times in the second inning off Yard Goats starter Jack Wynkoop to take a 3-0 lead. Gabriel Quintana cranked a two-run home run and two batters later A.J. Simcox connected on a solo blast.

The Yard Goats made it a one-run game with a pair of runs in the third off Erie starter Matt Hall. Ashley Graeter reached on a throwing error and Brian Mundull had an infield hit putting runners at first and second base. Stephen Cardullo followed by doubling down the left field line scoring Graeter and Mundull to make it a 3-2 game.

After the SeaWolves added a run in the bottom of the third inning to make it 4-2, the Yard Goats rallied again. However, the Yard Goats would rally for four runs in the fifth to take a 6-4 lead. Ashley Greater began the frame with a single and Drew Weeks doubled him home to make it 4-3. Brian Mundell followed with an RBI single scoring Weeks to tie the game 4-4. Later in the inning Jose Fuentes extended his hit streak to 10 consecutive games by ripping a double to the gap in left centerfield, scoring Mundell and Nunez and giving the Yard Goats their first lead at 6-4.

Erie tied the game with two runs in the sixth inning off reliever Johendi Jiminian. But, the Yard Goats answered in the seventh as Stephen Cardullo belted a two-run homer off the Erie Insurance Arena building which makes up the left field wall, giving Hartford an 8-6 lead.

The Yard Goats wrap up their road trip and play the final of a three-game weekend series against the Erie SeaWolves (Detroit Tigers affiliate) on Sunday afternoon (1:35 PM) at UPMC Park in Erie, Pennsylvania. RHP Ryan Castellani will start for the Yard Goats and RHP Beau Burrows will pitch for the SeaWolves. The broadcast can be heard on AM 1410 WPOP or on iheart radio.
