Yard Goats Ace Dominates in Win on Friday vs Sea Dogs

Binghamton, NY- The Hartford Yard Goats (47-39) defeated by the Portland Sea Dogs (31-56) by the score of 4-2 on Friday evening in the opener of a three game series at NySeg Stadium in Binghamton, New York. Yard Goats ace German Marquez (AIR-MON MAR-KEZ) dominated one of the best lineups in the Eastern League in eight innings while earning his team-high eighth win of the season while lowering his ERA to 2.63. The right-handed fireballer allowed just two runs (1ER) and struck out nine while earning his third straight win. Ryan McMahon broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run triple in the sixth inning and the Yard Goats cruised behind Marquez. Noel Cuevas had another three-hit game, his fourth in a row and is now 12 for 16 at-bat in four games since joining the Yard Goats on Tuesday. Raimel Tapia extended the longest current hitting streak in the Eastern League to 18 straight games with his first inning single.
The Yard Goats scored the first run of the game in the first inning off Portland starter Jalen Beeks. Raimel Tapia led off the inning with a single, extending his hitting streak to 18 consecutive games. Pat Valaika followed with a walk putting runners at first and second base. Tapia was thrown out trying to advance to third on a pitch in the dirt. Dillon Thomas then walked putting runners back at first and second base and after a wild pitch second and third. Noel Cuevas' RBI ground ball scored Valaika, giving Hartford a 1-0 lead.
Hartford had leadoff doubles by Zach Osborne in the third inning and Noel Cuevas in the fourth inning stranded on the bases. The Sea Dogs tied the game on a solo homer by Yoan Moncada in the sixth inning.
Meanwhile, German Marquez was in control and recorded eight strikeouts in eight solid innings. The only earned run that he allowed was on Yoan Moncada's solo home run in the sixth inning. He struck out the sides in both the fifth and eighth innings.
The Yard Goats scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning off reliever Taylor Grover. Ryan McMahon doubled home Noel Cuevas and Rosell Herrerra making it a 3-1 game. Hartford added a run in the seventh inning on an RBI double by Pat Valaika.
The Yard Goats wrap up their final day of baseball before the four day All-Star break on Saturday with an afternoon doubleheader against the Portland Sea Dogs on Friday night (6:05 PM) at NySeg Stadium in Binghamton, NY. RHP German Marquez will start for the Yard Goats. The game will be broadcast live on News Radio 1410 WPOP.
