Tampa Yankees News Release

TAMPA, Fla. - In a rematch of last season's Florida State League Championship Series, the Tampa Yankees (5-4) welcomed the Bradenton Marauders (8-1) for a doubleheader to begin a four- game series at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

Bradenton entered as the lone undefeated team in all of Minor League Baseball. After falling in the opener, 4-1, the T-Yanks issued the Marauders their first loss of the season with a 2-1 walk-off victory in the second leg of the twin bill on Thursday night.

Domingo Acevedo got the ball in game one, making his second start. The right-hander retired the first nine batters he faced, taking a no-hitter into the fifth.

Ke'Bryan Hayes led off the fifth with a triple to the wall in right-center. Christian Kelley followed with an RBI single, giving Bradenton a 1-0 lead.

Tampa tied the game in the bottom of the frame. Nick Solak drew a leadoff walk and promptly stole second. A wild pitch by Mitch Keller allowed Solak to reach third. Later, a second wild pitch Keller gave Solak passage to score.

The Marauders started to get to Acevedo in the third time through the order. Mitchell Tolman and Cole Tucker reached on back-to-back singles to begin the sixth. Will Craig followed with an RBI single, giving Bradenton the lead. One out later, Hayes delivered a two-run single for a 4-1 lead.

Acevedo (L, 0-1) allowed four earned runs on six hits in five and two-third innings. The 23-year-old tallied a season-high nine strikeouts and walked two batters, throwing 57 of 86 pitches for strikes.

Keller (W, 1-0) held Tampa to one earned run on three hits in six innings, walking one while striking out four. The righty threw 52 of 79 pitches for strikes.

Mandy Alvarez and Solak lined back-to-back singles in the seventh, bringing the tying run to the plate. LHP Daniel Zamora (SV, 2) struck out the final two batters, preserving the win for Bradenton.

Tampa grabbed an early lead against Bradenton in game two.

Jorge Mateo led off the bottom of the first with a single into right and immediately stole second. Two outs later, Matt Snyder came through with an RBI single, giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.

Kyle Haynes joined Tampa from Extended Spring Training and made the start in game two. The right-hander faced the minimum in four innings, thanks to a caught-stealing in the second and a double play in the third. Haynes allowed one hit and one walk while striking out three, throwing 35 of 54 pitches for strikes.

Logan Sendelbach did not surrender much after the first inning for Bradenton. The right-hander held Tampa to one earned run on four hits in five innings, walking two while striking out three and throwing 42 of 66 pitches for strikes.

RHP Cody Carroll relieved Haynes in the fifth and struck out the first two batters before finding trouble.

Casey Hughston drew a two-out walk and advanced to second on a single by Trace Tam Sing. The runners raced around as Alfredo Reyes skied a high pop-up above the infield. A strong wind blew the ball that fell, fair, between the Tampa infielders, allowing Hughston to score. A groundout ended the inning.

The score remained tied after regulation, sending the game into an extra eighth inning.

Dillon McNamara worked around a leadoff single and a walk in the top of the eighth, stranding a pair of Bradenton runners.

Mateo drew a one-out walk in the home half. The speedster later stole second and third base before racing home on a game-winning RBI infield single by Trey Amburgey, who beat the play to first on a bare-hand attempt by Reyes at shortstop.

McNamara (W, 1-0) earned the win, holding the Marauders to a hit and two walks in three scoreless relief innings.

Mateo (2-for-6, BB, 2R, 3SB) now has nine stolen bases in eight games played. Solak (2-for-4, 2B, 2BB, R, SB) reached base four times.

The series continues on Friday at 7:00 p.m. LHP Ian Clarkin (1-0, 1.80 ERA) is scheduled to pitch for Tampa against LHP Taylor Hearn (1-0, 0.00 ERA) for Bradenton. On Wing Deal Friday, fans can enjoy $10 all-you-can-eat chicken wings from 6:30-8:30 p.m. A fireworks show will follow the game.
