Tampa Yankees News Release

TAMPA, Fla. - A day off on Tuesday proved to be valuable for the Tampa Yankees (10-10/51-28) as the club's struggling offense recorded 15 hits and snapped a four-game losing streak with an 8-3 win in the series-opener against the Fort Myers Miracle on Wednesday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

Entering Wednesday, the Yankee offense averaged 1.9 runs-per-game in July and was shutout in four of the last nine games. 15 hits are the most by the Yankees since May 19th, when Tampa used 16 hits in a 12-2 win vs. Jupiter.

The game began following an hour and thirty-one minute rain and lightning delay.

Tampa jumped out to an early lead in the first, sending eight batters to the plate and scoring three runs on four hits. Thairo Estrada and Trey Amburgey hit back-to-back, one-out singles. Both scored as Zack Zehner doubled into the left field corner. Abiatal Avelino followed with an RBI single.

Fort Myers responded with a pair of runs in the second and third off RHP Will Carter. Alex Perez hit a two-out, ground-rule double and scored on a base hit by Daniel Kihle in the second. LaMonte singled and later scored on a two-out double by Trey Vavra in the third, cutting the lead to 3-2.

The Yankees sent eight more batters to the plate against RHP Keaton Steele in the third. Avelino drew a leadoff walk and scored on a triple by Devyn Bolasky. Vicente Conde followed with a sacrifice fly. Connor Spencer singled and advanced, one out later, on a base hit by Mason Williams before scoring on a single by Estrada, giving Tampa a 6-2 advantage.

Steele (L, 4-8) surrendered six earned runs on 10 hits in three innings, walking two while striking out a pair. The right-hander threw 41 of 69 pitches for strikes.

Tampa added another run in the fourth off LHP Michael Theofanopoulos. Avelino drew a walk and later scored on a two-out single by Spencer.

Carter (W, 2-3) recorded his fourth-consecutive quality start. The right-hander allowed two earned runs on seven hits and a hit-batter in six innings, striking out three while not issuing a walk. Carter threw 57 of 83 pitches for strikes.

Caleb Frare came off the disabled list and relieved Carter, making his first appearances since May 28th. The southpaw allowed an RBI sacrifice fly by Wade in the seventh before tossing a scoreless eighth.

Conde began the bottom of the seventh with a double and later scored on a two-out RBI single by Williams, tallying Tampa's final run.

RHP Angel Rincon worked around a single and tallied a strikeout in a shutout ninth.

Williams (3-for-5, RBI) recorded his third-straight multi-hit game and played centerfield in his second-straight game of his rehab assignment. Estrada (3-for-5, RBI, R) tallied his second three-hit game since joining Tampa. Zehner (2-for-5, 2B, 2RBI, R) extended his hitting streak to 15 games. Bolasky (2-for-3, 3B, RBI, R) and Spencer (2-for-3, RBI, R) also had multi-hit games.

The series continues on Thursday night at 7:00 with LHP James Reeves (2-1, 1.57 ERA) starting for Tampa against LHP Randy Rosario (5-5, 3.25 ERA) for Fort Myers. Every Thursday Tampa Yankees home game, fans can enjoy 14 oz. draft beer for $2 and 1/2 price regular soda from 6:00pm-8:00pm.
