TAMPA, Fla. - The T-Yanks tied a season-high with their eighth-consecutive victory by defeating the Palm Beach Cardinals (16-16, 56-43), 5-2, on Wednesday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

Tampa (21-11, 60-42) has now won 13 of its last 14 games to become the first team in the Florida State League to reach 60 overall wins.

Jose Mesa made his third spot-start of the season and held the Cardinals to two hits and a walk over three and two-third scoreless frames. The right-hander tallied five strikeouts while throwing 38 of 61 pitches for strikes in a no-decision.

Palm Beach starter Junior Fernandez left the game after one inning due to an undisclosed reason. The righty allowed one hit and one walk while throwing eight of 18 pitches for strikes in his shortest outing of the season.

Wes Wilson reached on a hit-by-pitch to begin the bottom of the third against reliever Ramon Santos . Jeff Hendrix followed with a walk before Daniel Barrios grounded into a 6-4-3 double play, pushing Wilson to third. Gosuke Katoh then slapped a two-out single into left, scoring Wilson and giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.

LHP Trevor Lane (W, 1-0) relieved Mesa in the fourth and worked around a hit and a walk while pitching two and a third scoreless innings.

The Yankees tacked on another run off Santos in the sixth. After a pair of singles by Katoh and Holder, Alexander Palma pulled a one-out single into left, scoring Katoh and doubling Tampa's lead to 2-0.

Santos (L, 1-2) allowed two earned runs on six hits in five innings, walking one and striking out one while tossing 41 of 60 pitches for strikes.

Tampa rallied for three more runs in the seventh against LHP Brady Bowen . Singles by Wilson and Daniel Barrios, along with a walk by Katoh, loaded the bases with two outs. Bowen plunked Trey Amburgey with a pitch, forcing home Wilson. Holder followed with a two-run double to left, giving the Yankees a 5-0 cushion.

LHP Caleb Frare (H, 1) cruised through the seventh and eighth before running into trouble in the ninth. The Cardinals placed runners at first and second with one out and Casey Turgeon lined an RBI single into center. Leobaldo Pina followed with a sacrifice fly, cutting the lead to 5-2.

After a base hit by Andy Young, RHP Jordan Foley (SV, 3) entered in relief. Jeremy Martinez singled into left, loading the bases. Foley then got Jose Martinez to ground out, ending the game.

Palma (2-for-4, 2B, RBI) is batting .500 (12-for-24) over a six-game hitting streak. Katoh (2-for-3, BB, RBI, 2R) is batting .433 (13-for-30) over his last eight games.
