X's Fall On Pinch Hit Walk-Off Home Run

Lincoln, NE- The Lincoln Saltdogs get the win over Sioux City in dramatic fashion, securing the 5-4 victory with a pinch hit, walk-off, lead-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning by Lincoln's own Jon Smith.

Lincoln recorded their first run of the contest in the first inning. Curt Smith knocked in a run with an RBI single, jumping to an early 1-0 lead at Haymarket Park.

Explorers tied the game in the top half of the third. Ino Patron led-off the inning with a double, moved to third on a sacrifice, and scored off an RBI single by Michael Lang to tie the game at 1-1.

Saltdogs answered with a run of their own in the third inning. Another RBI single by Curt Smith (second RBI of the game), gave Lincoln the 2-1 lead after three innings of play.

In the seventh, Lincoln tacked on a couple more. Brandon Jacobs plated a run with an RBI double, and Curt Smith racked up his third RBI of the night, with a base-hit single.

Sioux City tied it with one swing of the bat in the eighth inning. With the bases-loaded and no outs, X's left-fielder LeVon Washington cleared the bases with a three-run double to tie the game at 4-4.

In the bottom of the ninth, Saltdogs pinch hitter Jon Smith led-off with a walk-off home run to get the 5-4 victory over Sioux City on Saturday night.

Lincoln's starter Lindsey Caughel (5-3) had a no decision on the night, going seven solid innings with only one run allowed. Saltdogs right-hander Evan Reed (2-2) received the victory, pitching a scoreless inning.

Explorers starter Ryan Zimmerman (3-8) finished with a no decision allowing two runs in 5.2 innings with five strikeouts. X's right-hander PJ Francescon (1-6) was charged with the loss, giving up the walk-off home run in the ninth inning.
