Memphis Xplorers News Release
SOUTHAVEN, MS --- The 2005 ArenaCup Champion Memphis Xplorers of the af2 have been assigned WR/DB Charles Allgood and FB/LB Danny Triplett by the league office for the 2006 season. These assignments represent the sixth and seventh players assigned to the team so far.
Allgood was a standout cornerback at Division II Adams State of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The 6-foot-two, 202 pound native of Los Angeles, California earned All America honors from three different organizations following his senior season in 2004. He was also First Team All RMAC and First Team All Southwest Region for Division II. He led the conference in passes defended his senior season with 18 and was second with five interceptions. Allgood was also All RMAC in track and won the honor of the "Fastest Man in the RMAC" by winning the conference titles in the 100 and 200 meters.
"Charles made a habit of making plays his entire college career," Xplorers Head Coach Danton Barto said. "We think he will be able to carry that over into our league."
"Charles was an extremely productive small school player," Xplorers Director of Player Personnel Chris Bauer said. "He reminds us of several of the successful playmakers the Xplorers have had in the past."
Triplett, a 6-foot-2, 245 pound former Northern Iowa linebacker, finished his college career with 53 solo tackles, 30 assisted tackles, one sack and two forced fumbles. In his senior season of 2004 he had 32.5 total tackles in seven games before suffering a season ending knee injury. The native of Des Moines, Iowa had a career high 11 tackles against Iowa State that season. He played his first two seasons at Iowa Central Community College.
"I believe that Danny will be an impact player for us this year," Barto said. "If you look at his statistics, he was a player that was on the verge of being drafted until he had that injury."
"If healthy, Danny would have been taken in the NFL draft," Bauer said. "He has all the athletic talent in the world and he is coming to us to restart his career after the injury."
The Xplorers are also holding try-outs this Sunday at Snowden Grove Park off of Getwell Road in Southaven. Snowden Grove Park is located off of Getwell Road south of Goodman Road at 3335 Pine Tar Alley.
