Xplorers assigned OL/DL Lobel, activate OL/DL Troutman from exempt list

SOUTHAVEN --- The Memphis Xplorers announced today that the team has been assigned OL/DL Blake Lobel by the af2 league office. The team also activated OL/DL Maurice Troutman from the Other League Exempt List. These roster moves are intended to help the Xplorers' depth on the offensive and defensive lines after OL/DL Phillip Perry was placed on the Long-Term Injured Reserve. Perry ruptured his Achilles tendon in last week's win over Macon and underwent surgery earlier this week.
The 6-foot-3, 265 pound Lobel was signed as a free agent by the Indianapolis Colts of the NFL following the 2005 NFL Draft. He was in camp with the Colts last year and spent time on the team's practice squad.
The Chino Hills, CA native concluded his college career at San Diego State in 2004. He finished second on the team with five sacks and led the team with 11 tackles for loss in 2004. He was also selected as a member of the All-Mountain West Second Team following the 2004 season.
Troutman, also 6-3, 265, was originally assigned to the Xplorers in November. He was called up and signed by the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League following the CFL season. The Stampeders released the Long Beach, CA native this spring.
During his college career at Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Troutman was a two-time All-SWAC Selection and was a preseason All-American prior to his senior season in 2004. He was the SWAC sack and forced fumble leader in 2003.
The Xplorers host the Manchester Wolves tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at the DeSoto Civic Center.
