Memphis Xplorers News Release

Southaven, MS-The Memphis Xplorers of the af2 have been assigned place-kicker Nick Hayes by the league office. Hayes will play for the Xplorers against the Arkansas Twisters this Saturday at the ALLTEL Arena in Little Rock. Game time is scheduled for 7:05pm.

Hayes attended the University of Alabama Birmingham, where he scored 84 points during his senior season, converting 45-48 PATs and also making 13 of 17 field goals. In his three year career with the Blazers, Hayes made 77.2% of field goals (44-57), which is number one all time in the history of the school. His 44 field goals is also seventh in Conference USA history.

“Our PAT kicking game has been a struggle all season long,” said Xplorers Head Coach Danton Barto. “We want to get better, and I am confident that Nick Hayes will quickly solve the problems we have been having. He made a lot of big kicks at UAB, and I believe he could be the missing piece of the puzzle for us.”

The Xplorers have the second worst PAT percentage in the league at .683 (41-60). Memphis had success with their field goals early on the season, but the struggles as of late have forced Barto and the coaching staff to keep the offense on the field in fourth down situations.

Hayes was a member of the pre-season All Conference USA team prior to the start of his senior season. He is originally from Birmingham, AL.

All Xplorers games can be heard on Sports Radio WMC The Mighty 790. Memphis’ next home game is Saturday June 11th against the Quad City Steamwheelers Single game tickets start at $7 and can be purchased by calling 662-280-9120, visiting the DeSoto Civic Center box office, or by logging onto www.TicketMaster.com today.
