Memphis Xplorers News Release

SOUTHAVEN, MS --- The Memphis Xplorers of af2 announced today that the team has been assigned former NFL lineman Adrian Gonzalez by the league office. The six-foot-five-inch, 340 pound Louisiana Tech product was formerly with the Washington Redskins as an unrestricted free agent signed in May of 2005.

"When we were looking for a shutdown offensive lineman, Adrian was one of the best guys in the whole country available," Head Coach Danton Barto said.

"We are usually known for finding pass rush specialists and this is unique for us," Director of Player Personnel Chris Bauer said. "With the rule changes, we needed to find a shutdown type of offensive lineman and we think we found the perfect guy for our system."

In his senior season at Louisiana Tech in 2004, the Dallas, TX native was on the preseason Outland Trophy Watch List, was named second team All-WAC and helped anchor an offensive line that opened holes for WAC rushing leader and Offensive Player of the Year Ryan Moats. Moats' 1,774 yards rushing that season ranked seventh in the nation and was also the fourth highest in WAC history. During his junior season, Gonzalez was part of a line that helped Moats lead the conference with 1,300 yards and helped protect Bulldog QB Luke McCown as he passed for over 3,200 yards.

The Xplorers open training camp on March 13 at the Pyramid in Memphis.
