LEADING OFF: West Virginia dropped the series opener against the Charleston RiverDogs on Monday, falling 6-5. The Power opened the scoring in the bottom of the second, paced by a Clark Eagan two-run double. After the RiverDogs scored twice in the top of the third, Trae Arbet's solo home run pushed the West Virginia advantage to 4-2. Charleston tied the game in the top of the six on a home run by Isiah Gilliam. The Power recaptured the lead with a run in the bottom of the seventh, but the RiverDogs again countered. Gilliam tripled in two runs for the final scoring of the game. Matt Eckelman pitched three and a third reliefs innings and took the loss. Jordan Jess was charged with West Virginia's first blown save of the season and David Sosebee earned the win.

DOWN BY ONE: After Monday's loss to Charleston, the Power are now 1-7 in one-run games this season. West Virginia has lost ten times at home this month, including six games by one run. The Power lost 29 times at Appalachian Power Park over the course of the entire 2016 season.

LIGHTENING STRIKES: On Monday, the Pittsburgh Pirates recalled Dovydas Neverauskas from Triple-A Indianapolis. The right-hander from Lithuania made his Major League debut last night and became the 61st former Power player to reach the Major Leagues. Neverauskas was a starting pitcher for the Power in 2014 and at the outset of 2015 before being shifted to the bullpen. He is the first Lithuanian-born player to reach the Major Leagues.

TOP OF HIS GAME: Luis Escobar will make his fourth start of the season tonight. The right-handed pitcher has struck out 32 batters over 16 and two-thirds innings, second-most in the South Atlantic League and third-most in Minor League Baseball. Escobar is one strikeout behind Scott Moss of Dayton and two behind Columbia's Jordan Humphreys, both of whom have thrown 20 or more innings over four starts. Escobar trails that duo, plus Boston's Chris Sale (42), Cleveland's Danny Salazar and Washington's Max Scherzer for the most strikeouts this season regardless of level. All three Major Leaguers have each made four starts.

SOUTHWARD WE GO: The Power continue their first series of the season against the Charleston RiverDogs tonight. Charleston holds a 45-34 all-time series lead entering the season match-up, including a 21-17 mark at Appalachian Power Park. Between today and May 31, West Virginia has 34 games, 27 of which are against Southern Division opponents and nine against the club from Charlie South.

AL VS. NL: West Virginia is 6-2 this season against clubs that are affiliated with American League teams and 2-9 vs. National League-affiliate clubs.

END GAME: Several Power hitting streaks ended in game one on Sunday afternoon. Ty Moore's ten game streak was snapped, as was Kevin Mahala's eight game streak and Carlos Munoz's seven-game run.

POWER POINTS: Dovydas Neverauskas is the fourth former Power player to reach the Majors in the last ten days... Ty Moore's recent ten game hitting streak is tied for the longest by any player in the South Atlantic League this season... Carlos Munoz had seven home runs in 126 games last season and has three in 14 games this year... West Virginia is 0-2 this season when using a spot starter and 8-9 when a member of the rotation starts... Heading in to play on Monday, the Power and RiverDogs were the only teams in the league without a blown save this season.

AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh lost 14-3 to Chicago at PNC Park. The Cubs led 9-1 after two innings... Indianapolis was idle on Monday and plays at Pawtucket tonight... Altoona beat Erie 3-1 in 12 innings. Pablo Reyes drove in a pair for the Curve... Bradenton battles Fort Myers tonight with Mitch Keller on the hill after an off day.

PROMO PREVIEW: The Power host the Charleston RiverDogs on Wednesday, April 26, at 10:35 A.M. This marks the first of two Grand Slam School Days this season. The second will be held on Tuesday, May 16, with the RiverDogs as the opponent once again.

ON THE AIR: West Virginia Power games can be heard on The Jock 1300 & 1340 AM in the Kanawha Valley, online at wvpower.com and on the TuneIn Radio App. Adam Marco will call the action and will be joined by Steve Granado when the team plays at Appalachian Power Park.
