Charleston Dirty Birds News Release

Charleston, WV- The West Virginia Power downed the Lexington Legends 6-4 in a wild game Wednesday night at Appalachian Power Park. Mitch Keller extended his scoreless inning streak to 23 frames as the Power captured their fourth straight victory.

West Virginia took a 3-0 lead after Lexington starter Scott Blewett retired the first two batters of the third. John Bormann got the scoring started by doubling home Stephen Alemais to give the Power a 1-0 advantage. With runners at second and third, the next batter, Logan Ratledge, reached on an infield single to plate another run, and shortstop D.J. Burt's throw skipped past first baseman Colton Frabisilio which allowed the third run of the inning to cross.

West Virginia added another run in the fourth. Following back-to-back singles by Mitchell Tolman and Logan Hill, Carlos Munoz expanded the lead to 4-0 with an RBI single to left.

Blewett surrendered four runs on seven hits across six innings while striking out ten.

Mitch Keller limited the Legends to just three hits through five shutout innings, while striking out seven and walking two. The right-hander expanded his scoreless inning streak to 23 innings dating back to his start on August 6 at Delmarva. The seven whiffs give Keller 131 strikeouts for the season, placing him in sole possession of third most in a season in Power history, and just three behind Will Inman for second on the list.

Lexington came back to tie the game in the sixth with a four-run nine-batter inning. Six of the first eight batters in the frame reached base on three walks and three base hits, capped by a game tying two-run and two out single by DJ Burt. All four runs were charged to Yunior Montero in two-thirds of an inning of relief.

After a scoreless seventh, the Power retook the lead with a pair of runs in the eighth. With one out Mitchell Tolman walked and advanced to second on a Carlos Munoz single. With Daniel Arribas at the plate, both runners advanced on a wild pitch and in an effort to throw out Tolman at third, Chase Vallot threw the ball into left field which allowed the go-ahead run to score. Later in the at-bat, Arribas roped a single to right which plated Munoz and expanded West Virginia's edge to 6-4.

Julio Eusebio faced the minimum in the ninth to seal the 6-4 victory and notch his team leading eleventh save. Jess Amedee struck out five in two and a third shutout innings to gain his first win of the year.

Eight of the nine Power batters recorded a hit, with Munoz the only player to knock multiple hits. Munoz, Arribas, Bormann and Ratledge each accounted for an RBI in the game.

West Virginia and Lexington meet for the final time in the 2016 season on Thursday night. Dario Agrazal takes the bump for West Virginia, matched up against Lexington starter Julio Pinto. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 P.M. at Appalachian Power Park.
