LEADING OFF: West Virginia's game at Lexington on Thursday was postponed due to rain. The Power and Legends will play two seven inning games tonight beginning at 5:05 pm.
LAST TIME OUT: The Power fell 1-0 to Kannapolis in a Grand Slam School Day game on Wednesday. The Intimidators Tanner Banks worked a complete game shutout, limited the Power to four hits and one walk. Dario Agrazal made the start for West Virginia and pitched six scoreless innings. In the eighth, Danny Mendick singled and scored on a double by Grant Massey. Seth McGarry took the loss as Banks notched the win. Alfredo Reyes had two hits for West Virginia while Ke'Bryan Hayes and Tyler Filliben collected the other Power hits. The loss was West Virginia's first since April 11 and snapped an eight game winning streak.
ONE NIL: West Virginia was downed three times last season in 1-0 finals.
WE MEET AGAIN: West Virginia and Lexington begin their second series of the season tonight at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. The Power swept the Legends in a four game set at Appalachian Power Park last weekend, out-scoring Lexington 22-11. The Legends committed 12 errors during the series while the Power did not commit one. West Virginia holds a 118-99 record in the all-time series, including a 62-47 mark in Lexington since 2005.
REYES RISING: Alfredo Reyes hitting streak has reached eight straight with two hits on Wednesday. The shortstop is batting .345 since April 12 with ten hits over 29 at bats.
STOPPED AT EIGHT STRAIGHT: Wednesday's loss snapped an eight game winning streak. The Power had not won eight in a row since July of the 2013 season and haven't won more than eight straight since a ten game winning streak in 2009 from August 8 through 18. Tuesday's victory clinched the fourth straight series win to open the 2016 season.
HERE AND THERE: Julio Vivas was added to the Power roster from Extended Spring Training on Tuesday. The right-hander appeared in 25 games for the Power last season after opening the year with Bradenton. Vivas was 3-1 for West Virginia with an ERA of 3.00 and two saves. Logan Ratledge was transferred to the WV Black Bears roster on Tuesday to make room for Julio Vivas. Ratledge, an infielder, was the winning pitcher in Monday night's 16 inning game. He was hitless over seven at bats in the South Atlantic League this year. Ratledge is, however, 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA.
HONOR ROLL: On Monday, Mitch Keller was tabbed by the South Atlantic League as its Pitcher-of-the-Week for April 7 through 17. The 20 year-old went 1-0 over two starts during the ten day span, striking out ten in his debut on April 11 following it up with five shutout innings on Saturday. Stephen Tarpley was the only West Virginia pitcher to earn a weekly league honor during the 2015 season.
POWER POINTS: The next former Power player to reach the Majors will be the 50th to do so in franchise history... Alfredo Reyes hitting streak is now at six games and the shortstop is batting .318 since April 12... Ke'Bryan Hayes hit his first pro home run and went 4-6 Monday, driving in five of the Power's eight runs... Monday's game was the longest in the history of Appalachian Power Park. Tito Polo was held without a hit on Wednesday, going 0-4 and snapping his hitting streak at 10 games. Polo also had a hit in his last game last year, pushing the streak to 11 games prior to Wednesday.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh trounced San Diego 11-1 to avoid a series sweep. Gerrit Cole earned his first win of the season... Indianapolis lost 6-5 to Louisville in 11 innings... Altoona lost a 5-1 decision against Richmond. Cody Dickson allowed four runs and took the loss... Bradenton doubled up Palm Beach 4-2.
PROMO UPDATE: The Power will host a Faith and Family Festival on April 30. Gates open at 1:00 pm with a 2:05 first pitch against Asheville. After the final out, KJ-52 and Abandon will perform live.
ON THE AIR: West Virginia Power games can be heard on Charleston's ESPN Radio 104.5 FM and 1490 AM in Charleston, online at wvpower.com and on the TuneIn Radio App.
Adam Marco will call the action once again and will be joined by Greg Wong when the team plays at Appalachian Power Park.
