Game 138 | September 6, 2015 | Intimidators Stadium | Kannapolis, N.C.

Radio: Charleston's ESPN 104.5 & 1490 - wvpower.com Airtime: 4:45 pm

TONIGHT'S MATCH-UP

RH Yeudy Garcia (12-5, 2.02) vs. RH Zach Thompson (3-7, 4.37)

Garcia: Worked 5.0 shutout innings and surrendered two hits, 5 BB, and 2 K on 9/1 vs. LEX (3-2 Power/10)

Thompson: Allowed five runs on seven hits over 4.0 IP with BB and 4 K in 9/1 L @ HAG (6-0 Suns)

THE LEADOFF: West Virginia defeated Kannapolis 6-5 on Saturday night at Intimidators Stadium to give the Power a 2-1 series lead. Jerrick Suiter had a career-day at the plate with three doubles, matching a team-high this season. With West Virginia trailing 4-1 in the sixth, the Power scored four runs with two outs to take a 5-4 lead. The Power bullpen blew a save though after a Toby Thomas home run in the seventh tied the game. In the eighth, West Virginia reclaimed its final lead of the night on Suiter's last double of the night to score Kevin Kramer. Nick Neumann surrendered a leadoff double in the ninth but retired the next three batters in order to notch the save.

REVERSE INTIMIDATION: With two games left, the Power have a single-season, franchise-best 84 victories. The 2007 club originally set franchise record of 82 wins and that total was matched in 2013. West Virginia wraps up the regular season with the five-game series in Kannapolis, a team the Power currently hold the season-series lead 7-6. Following this set against the Intimidators, the Power begin postseason play against Hickory.

WHO'S GONNA WIN?: In last night's victory, West Virginia outfielder Jerrick Suiter went 3-for-4 to bump his batting average to a team-best .296. Elvis Escobar, who was leading the Power in hitting entering play yesterday, went 0-for-3 and saw his average dip to .295.

NO. 47: Former Power catcher Ramon Cabrera made his Major League debut with the Cincinnati Reds yesterday. Caberera appeared as a pinch-hitter in the ninth inning in the Reds' 7-3 loss against Milwaukee in game two of their doubleheader. Cabrera becomes the third player this season to make his MLB debut after playing for West Virginia. Elias Diaz was called up by the Pirates but has yet to make his debut.

GARCIA IN FRONT: Yeudy Garcia makes his final start of the season tonight and can put himself in rare company with a good outing. If Garcia can record five outs without surrendering an earned run, his ERA will drop to under 2.00. Garcia could surrender one earned run and work six innings to lower his ERA to under 2.00. The last time a qualifying pitcher led the team with a sub-2.00 ERA was Augusta's Madison Bumgarner who had a 1.46 ERA in 2008 for Augusta.

NOTHING BEATS HOME COOKING: West Virginia won 48 games at Appalachian Power Park this season, the most in the franchise and tied for the most in professional baseball with the St. Louis Cardinals. The last team to win 48 games at home in the South Atlantic League were the Savannah Sand Gnats in the 2011 season.

TWO GOOD: Tuesday saw the South Atlantic League announce the selection of the 2015 Postseason All-Star Team. Yeudy Garcia was tabbed as both the "Most Outstanding Pitcher" and the "Top Right-Handed Pitcher". Garcia is 12-5 and leads the league with a 2.01 ERA. Power right fielder Michael Suchy was named one of the outfielders on the postseason roster. Suchy is hitting .271 with ten home runs and 73 RBIs, the second most in the circuit.

All fans will receive a free general admission ticket when picked up at least a day in advance (maximum of ten tickets).
