WV Miners Sign Two Infielders

Chad Ramsey and Miles Fore, a pair of infielders from Missouri Baptist University, have both signed contracts to play with the West Virginia Miners during the 2017 Prospect League baseball season this coming summer. The Miners unveiled their contract signings on the afternoon of April 13 and, with the recently announced departures of pitchers Josh Lambert and Ryan Sapp, makes 24 current roster spots announced that currently go toward completing the Miners' 28-man roster that will open the 2017 Prospect League season.
Ramsey has certainly been a big contributor for Missouri Baptist this spring in helping the Spartans to appear among the top 25 teams in the NAIA baseball poll. The 6-2, 190 pound senior has appeared in all 37 games that the Spartans had played in 2017 through games of April 8.
Primarily used as a middle infielder, the Damon, TX resident hit for a sparkling .328 batting average (41-for-125) during the first 37 games this spring while also leading the team in homers with eight. The left-handed hitter has also been a factor in every offensive category for Missouri Baptist over that stretch with 27 runs scored, 8 doubles, 1 triple, and 25 RBI to easily explain his lofty .600 slugging percentage and .414 on-base percentage. He can also add speed to his credits as he stole seven bases in his first nine attempts of 2017.
Ramsey has also seen game action as a pitcher at times over the course of his collegiate career. An All-State high school player at Needville (TX) High School, he had originally accepted an offer to attend New Mexico State University with a stop afterwards at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M before finally becoming one of the offensive mainstays at Missouri Baptist.
Fore, a 5-10, 198 pound infielder from Stockbridge, GA, has appeared in 24 games this spring through April 8 for Missouri Baptist, a member of the American Midwest Conference. For that time period, he has recorded a .207 batting average (12-for-58) with one homer and 17 RBI. He too can steal a base and has been successful five times in eight attempts over that stretch.
He first caught the attention of college coaches as a high school senior in 2014 at Redan High School, located in Stone Mountain, GA. There his final high school season showed a stat line of a .326 (28-for-86) batting average in 30 games with two homers and 26 RBI. He also scored 23 runs and posted an on-base percentage of .412.
His first collegiate action after high school came in 2015 at Pensacola (FL) State College, where he continued to swing a hot bat with a .300 (39-for-130) batting average in 43 games that included six doubles and 13 RBI.
Ramsey and Fore will join another pair of Missouri Baptist players, pitcher Michael Syrett and outfielder John Hagan, on the roster of the 2017 West Virginia Miners.
The Prospect League is the premier collegiate wood bat summer baseball league in the Midwest. It has been operating in its current form since 2009 while serving the summer baseball needs of top collegiate players. The 2016 Prospect League title won by the Miners was the team's third league championship in the last five seasons.
Season-long box seats and other ticket packages for the West Virginia Miners are already on sale for the 2017 Prospect League season, which begins on May 30 while the Miners home opener will be on June 1 versus the Butler (PA) Blue Sox.
