Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Las Vegas, NV- The Las Vegas Wranglers® announced that the team has agreed to terms with forward Matt Byrnes for the 2007-08 season. The team also announced that forward Sean O'Connor has been traded to the Phoenix Roadrunners for future considerations. Per club policy, terms of the deal are not disclosed.
"Matt Byrnes comes highly recommended out of Merrimack College," said Wranglers General Manager / Head Coach Glen Gulutzan. "He is a high energy player with a lot of speed. We expect to see him work hard every night."
Byrnes comes to Las Vegas to start his professional career after four years at Merrimack College. In 137 career games with the Warriors, Byrnes posted 11 goals and 31 assists for 42 points. The energetic forward also added 127 penalty minutes in his four-year stay. The 24-year old posted his best numbers during his sophomore season with 14 assists and 16 points in 35 games played.
"Sean O'Connor asked to be traded to Phoenix for personal reasons, after getting engaged to his longtime girlfriend," said Gulutzan. "We enjoyed having Sean in Las Vegas, so we honored his request to go to Phoenix. We look forward to seeing him this season."
O'Connor played in 49 games with Las Vegas from 2005-07. In 2005-06, the Victoria, BC native scored 19 goals and added 14 assists for 33 points in 44 games. After rehabbing a training camp injury in 2006-07, O'Connor returned to play the final five games of 2006-07 without registering a point.
The Wranglers are expected to make more announcements regarding player signings over the next few weeks. Defensemen Aaron Power, Gerry Burke, Jason Krischuk and Jason Jozsa, as well as forward Brandon Kaleniecki have all agreed to terms for the 2007-08 season.
