Wotherspoon's Strong Relief Aids Thunder 3-1 Win

Matt Wotherspoon delivered 3.2 innings of scoreless relief and the Thunder offense scratched together a pair of runs after the fourth inning to take a 3-1 victory over the Bowie Baysox in front of 5,333 fans at ARM & HAMMER Park on Tuesday night.

With a loss by the Hartford Yard Goats and the victory, the magic number for the Thunder to clinch a playoff spot is 6 games. The Thunder trail the Reading Fightin Phils by 2.5 games following their loss on Tuesday night.

Rehabbing New York Yankees RHP Bryan Mitchell threw the first four innings of Tuesday's game allowing just one run on three hits and two walks. Making his second rehab start for the team, Mitchell struck out two and threw 72 pitches, 46 strikes in his outing.

The Thunder got an RBI double from Dante Bichette Jr. in the second inning and took the lead on a Michael O'Neill RBI single in the fifth inning. The Thunder scratched out an unearned run in the seventh inning to extend the lead to 3-1.

Wotherspoon dominated in his outing allowing just two hits and striking out four batters to earn the victory. Tyler Jones finished off the win with a four-out save and a pair of strikeouts for his 11th of the year.

Jose Rosario and Bichette Jr. each had two-hit games to lead the offense, DBJ is batting .308 with a .443 on-base percentage in his last 21 games for the Thunder.
