Wolves wrap up first half on wrong side of whitewash

January 23, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL) - Chicago Wolves News Release

PEORIA, IL---The Chicago Wolves concluded the first half of the 2012-13 American Hockey League season with a 2-0 loss to Peoria Wednesday morning at Carver Arena.

Goaltender Joe Cannata (2-2-0) blocked 30 of 32 shots in net for the Wolves (19-14-3-2) while making his first road appearance of the season.

Peoria (19-19-2-2) opened the scoring with a well-maneuvered strike by left wing Andrew Murray at 16:47 of the second frame.

The Rivermen added to their goal total shortly after the third period dawned. A bullet from center Brett Sonne got past Cannata at the 3:30 mark as Andrew Nigro picked up the assist.

Chicago jumped all over the Rivermen down the stretch, but failed to find an opening against netminder Jake Allen (11-15-2). When Wolves forward Guillaume Desbiens broke away late in the period on a short-handed breakaway, his shot was gloved by Allen to rob Chicago of its best scoring opportunity.

Peoria became the first team to shut out the Wolves on the road since March 11, 2012, at Charlotte.

Chicago travels to Rockford at 7 p.m. Friday for an Illinois Lottery Cup contest that serves as the team's final game before the AHL's All-Star Classic weekend in Providence, R.I. The Wolves return to Allstate Arena for a 7 p.m. game against Peoria on Saturday, Feb. 2. For tickets, call 1-800-THE-WOLVES or visit ChicagoWolves.com.
