Mohegan Wolves News Release
NEW LONDON, Conn. (March 20, 2003) - The Mohegan Wolves (arenafootball2) will get their first taste of game action this Friday, March 28, when they tackle the Albany Conquest in a scrimmage at the Connecticut Sportsplex in North Branford.
The game will begin at approximately 1:30 p.m. and is open to the public.
This Fridays contest will also be the last chance the Wolves training camp invitees get to impress Coach Mark Stoute and his staff. Mohegan has to trim its current 29-man roster down to 19 active players by Monday, March 31.
Fridays scrimmage will be a good way for me and my staff to do our final evaluations, Stoute said. Right now it looks like we could have our work cut out for us because everybody has competed hard in camp. The final cuts wont be easy.
In 2002, the Wolves dropped all three head-to-head meetings with their Northeast Division rivals from Albany en route to a 3-13 inaugural campaign. This year Mohegan will battle the Conquest three times as well. Their first meeting will be on Friday, April 18 at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
In other team news, on Monday, March 24, the af2 league office announced OL/DL Shepard Alston and FB/LB Ben Labelle have been placed on reassignment and OL/DL Eric Bouris has been activated from refused to report.
The Wolves 2003 season kicks off on Sat., April 5, vs. the Rochester Brigade at the Mohegan Sun Arena. Every fan through the doors that night will receive a FREE Mohegan Wolves magnet schedule courtesy of the Wolves and game sponsors, AAA, 103.7 FNX Radio and The Day.
Mohegan Sun Arena is the premier entertainment venue in Connecticut. Major sporting events, including championship boxing, professional basketball, tennis and bowling, along with world-renowned entertainers such as Tim McGraw, Gloria Estefan, Janet Jackson and Aerosmith have performed in this 10,000-seat venue.
