NEW LONDON, C.T. (May 30th, 2002)- After a thrilling overtime victory last weekend in New Haven, the Wolves welcome the Ninjas to Mohegan for the first and only meeting of the season at the den. The game will decide which team has state bragging rights as well as where the Constitution Cup will reside for the remainder of the 2002 campaign. In attendance will be World Wrestling Entertainment star Terri. She will be doing the honorary coin toss and signing autographs after the game on the field. At halftime John Misita and his amazing “K-9s in Flight” will be performing as well. THE SERIES

In the first meeting of the season, the Ninjas defeated Mohegan 51-38 in perhaps the worst game of the season for the Wolves thus far. New Haven swept the post game awards with FB/LB Kerry Taylor winning Ironman of the Game. Taylor rushed for 42 yards on 10 carries to go with 2 touchdowns. He also forced a fumble and had 2 ½ tackles. WR/LB Ryan Bland was named ADT Defensive Player of the Game. He had 6 ½ tackles, an interception and 2 passes broken up in the victory. Anthony Comer won Game MVP. He had 6 tackles, a forced fumble, a recovered fumble, 2 passes broken up, 1 reception for 11 yards and a touchdown, 2 rushes for 9 yards and a touchdown on the evening. Despite the lopsided defeat, the Wolves more than doubled the Ninjas net yards, and held New Haven to 70 yards passing. The loss gave New Haven their first win in franchise history, and possession of the Constitution Cup and sparked a four game losing streak for the Wolves. In the second meeting both teams led at various points in the game. New Haven Kicker Dennis Wuestkamp hit a 44-yard field goal to tie the score 30-30 with: 47 seconds remaining. Mohegan was unable to score and the game went to overtime. The Wolves took the first possession of overtime, but an interception by Damon Richardson gave New Haven the ball. The Ninjas marched the ball to the Mohegan 2 yard line when OL/DL Brandon Stoker sacked New Haven QB Jarrod Rouanzoin forcing a fumble, which Wolves OL/DL Chris Smith recovered and ran 40 yards for the game-winning touchdown. The victory snapped a 4 game losing streak for the Wolves, and gave them possession of the Constitution Cup. Cable Davis was named Game MVP; he passed for 241 yards and 3 touchdowns in the victory. New Haven lineman Brian Watson was named Ironman of the Game, and Anthony Comer was named ADT Defensive Player of the Game.
