Wolves keep No. 1 ranking; top four stay put

June 22, 2005 - arenafootball2 (af2) News Release

CHICAGO - The Manchester wolves held on to the No.1 ranking in the weekly Coaches poll for the third consecutive week, the arenafootball2 (af2) league office announced earlier today. The Wolves received 224 of a possible 228 points to maintain control of the top spot.

Manchester's total included 16 first-place votes, up two from last week. Not far behind in the No.2 ranking, the Memphis Xplorers collected 214 points including four first-place mentions. The defending ArenaCup Champion Florida Firecats hold onto the No.3 spot with 196 points.

The arenafootball2 Week 13 schedule features two matchups of Top 12 teams. On Friday night at 7:30 p.m. No.11 Quad City heads east to challenge top ranked Manchester at Verizon Wireless Arena. On Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. the No.8 Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz host the No.2 ranked Memphis Xplorers at the Ford Center. All Times Eastern.

Each week during the season af2 coaches will vote for the Top 12 teams in the league by ranking them one through 12 on a ballot. Teams ranked first receive 12 points with the point value decreasing by one for each place below first, meaning a team ranked 12th would receive one point. Total points will determine the Top 12 list. In the event of a tie in total points, the team with the greater number of first-place votes will be ranked higher. The af2 Coaches Poll will be announced every Tuesday during the regular season. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team and the poll results have no bearing on postseason qualification.

About af2 In Week 13 of its sixth season, af2 serves as a vehicle to bring Arena Football to second-tier cities and as a developmental league with an unmatched history of sending players, coaches and officials to major professional football leagues each year. af2 operates under the same Mission Statement and Fans' Bill of Rights as the Arena Football League.
