Wolves Host Dog-Gone Good Time
October 1, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Chicago Wolves News Release
The Chicago Wolves will host Chicago's Department of Animal Care and Control (ACC) Adopt-a-Dog program, sponsored by Pet Supplies "Plus" and Pedigree, at their home opener against the Milwaukee Admirals at the Allstate Arena on Sat., Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. The team has helped find homes for more than 700 dogs the past seven seasons through the program.
Fans interested in adopting a dog can visit "Holzy's Hounds" - named after Wolves forward Riley Holzapfel, who is the team spokesman for the program - in the East lobby by the customer service booth on Saturday.
"Over the years, Adopt-A-Dog has really grown to be one of the Wolves trademark programs," said Wolves Vice President of Operations Courtney Mahoney. "We have been so pleasantly surprised with the success of the program, and the willingness of our fans to open their hearts and their homes to these animals. Riley Holzapfel is very excited to lend his support to the cause, and we are honored to have the support of Pet Supplies "Plus", Pedigree and the ACC behind us once again."
The Wolves became involved with the program through the team's chairman of the board, Don Levin, who has adopted pets from similar programs. In 2003, Levin purchased and donated the Animobile, a mobile adoption unit and modern clinic staffed by veterinarians and adoption specialists.
The dogs will be available for adoption throughout the game. Prospective owners must go through a screening process and pay a $65 fee, which includes spaying or neutering, all vaccinations and a Chicago license for their new pet. People who do not live in Chicago will be charged a $54.50 fee, which does not include a pet license. Puppies less than three months old and too young for the rabies vaccination can be adopted for a reduced rate.
This Saturday will be the first of seven games this season that the Adopt-A-Dog program will make an appearance at the Allstate Arena. The other nights are: Nov. 21, Dec. 19, Jan. 30, Feb. 20, March 20, and April 10.
For more information, call 1-800-THE-WOLVES or contact the ACC at 312-747-1380.
