Wolves Honor Chicago's Police And Fire Forces

December 29, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Chicago Wolves News Release

The Chicago Wolves will don commemorative jerseys, presented by Chase, in honor of Chicago's Police and Fire forces, at their home games on Sat., Jan. 2; Sat., Jan. 9; and Sun, Jan. 10. In addition, the Wolves will host a used cell-phone drive to benefit victims of domestic violence at the games.

The specialty jerseys -- designed in-house by the Wolves -- will be available in a silent auction throughout the games, with proceeds benefitting Chicago Wolves Charities, as well as Police and Fire related charities including the 100 Club of Cook County; Illinois Fire Safety Alliance - Camp I Am Me; and the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation.

The cell phones that are collected throughout the drive, as well as any prepaid phone cards, will be donated to people in high-risk domestic violence situations in conjunction with Connections For Abused Women and Their Children, formerly Chicago Abused Women Coalition, Chicago's oldest program for victims of domestic violence. Any fan who brings in a cell phone or phone card during the three-game drive will be entered into a drawing for a $50 gift certificate to the Chicago Wolves store.

"We thought this drive would be a natural tie-in with the great charities we are supporting through our Police and Fire jersey auction and raffle," said Wolves Vice President of Operations Courtney Mahoney. "As we honor those who protect and serve, we also wanted to do our part helping members of our community get the protection they need."

Beyond the auction, four commemorative jerseys will be raffled: those of defensemen ARTURS KULDA and BRIAN SIPOTZ; assistant coach RON WILSON; and the Wolves mascot, SKATES. Raffle tickets can be purchased for $5 each or five for $20, and the winners will be selected at the end of the game on Jan. 10. The remainder of the jerseys will be available at the silent auction at the Customer Service Booth in the East lobby.
