Wolves Fall to Troops in OT

The Sudbury Wolves engaged in fought a hard battle against the North Bay Battalion on Friday night in their final home game of the season. The game was a very physical affair, but ultimately the Wolves fell short in overtime 4-3 to their Northern rivals. It was a big game for a number of Wolves players including DMITRY SOKOLOV who led the way with a goal and an assist, including the tying goal with minutes remaining in the third period and CONOR ALI who recorded his first OHL point in his first game with the Wolves. Prior to the game, the Wolves also paid tribute to 20-year-olds MIKKEL AAGAARD, PATRICK MURPHY and DANNY DESROCHERS who are wrapping up their OHL careers.

The first period began with both teams playing a physical brand of hockey early on. The Battalion took an early lead when BRETT MCKENZIE scored his 26th goal of the season on the powerplay. The visitors then added two more to take a 3-0 lead after the first period behind MIKE AMADIO'S50th goal of the season and MAX KISLINGER's goal. Shots on goal at the end of the period were 14-11 in favour of the Battalion.

The Wolves would mount their comeback in the second when ALAN LYSZCZARCZYK scored his 17th goal of the season to put the home team on the board. KYLE CAPOBIANCO and DMITRY SOKOLOV assisted on the play. The Wolves led shots on goal 35-17 at the end of the second.

The Wolves came out firing on all cylinders in the third period. MIKKEL AAGAARD scored half way through the frame to bring the Wolves within one. The assists on AAGAARD'S goal were picked up by CONOR ALI and RYAN VALENTINI . With 3 minutes left in the third period, DMITRY SOKOLOV streaked down the ice and scored a sneaky backhand goal for his 28th of the season to tie the game at 3-3. Shots at the end of the third period were 37-29 in favor of the Wolves.

JAKE SMITH withstood the offensive pressure the Wolves put forth and allowed the Battalion to pull off the win in overtime when BRETT MCKENZIE scored the winning goal.

The Wolves final game of the year will be played tomorrow night in Barrie when they visit the Colts at 7:30pm. You can follow the Wolves on the road by listening to the live play-by-play with Stew Kernan on KFM 95.5.
