'Wolves Fall To B-Mets 7-4

The SeaWolves struggles continued on Monday night at NYSEG Stadium as they fell to the Binghamton Mets, 7-4, dropping their record to 0-5.
Lefty Andy Oliver made his professional debut for the SeaWolves but ran into trouble in the bottom of the first inning against the powerful B-Mets lineup. Kirk Nieuwenhuis led off with a walk and with one out, Nick Evans connected on his first home run of the season over the wall in right. The two-run shot gave the Mets a 2-0 lead. With two outs, Zach Lutz walked and was doubled home by Marshall Hubbard for a 3-0 lead.
Binghamton added to the lead in the bottom of the second. Carlos Guzman led off the inning with a walk and moved over to second on a Luis Hernandez single. With one out, Jonathan Malo grounded to short but on an overthrow of second by Cale Iorg, Guzman scored to make it 4-0.
In the third, the B-Mets made it 5-0 as Lutz sent a solo home run over the wall in left, his first of the season.
The SeaWolves would get on the board in the top of the fourth against Binghamton starter Eddie Kunz. With one out, Michael Bertram walked. Cesar Nicolas followed with a ground ball to short and on an error by Malo on a botched double play, both runners would reach safely. Deik Scram stepped in and blasted his first home run of the season. The three-run shot made it a 5-3 game.
In the fourth, Binghamton would make it a three-run game once again. Hernandez walked with one out and advanced to second on a groundout by Nieuwenhuis. Malo singled home Hernandez to make it 6-3.
Erie responded in the bottom of the inning as Santo De Leon connected on his first home run of the season, making it a 6-4 game. Erie, however, would get no closer.
The Mets added a run to make it 7-4 in the bottom of the seventh when Evans connected on his second home run of the game off of reliever Zach Simons.
Binghamton pitchers combined to 15 of the final 16 Erie batters securing the win.
Oliver (0-1) went 3.2 innings, allowing six runs, five earned, on six hits with four walks and four strikeouts.
The SeaWolves continue their three-game series with the Mets on Tuesday night.6:35 first pitch. Lefty Jon Kibler (0-1, 1.80 ERA) takes the mound for the Howlers making his second start of the season.
