'Wolves Fall In Game One of Doubleheader

The SeaWolves fell in their 11th straight in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday night at NYSEG Stadium, 2-0, to the Binghamton Mets.

It marked the second consecutive shutout tossed against Erie and the 'Wolves streak of consecutive scoreless innings is at 21. The last time Erie scored a run was on a Wilkin Ramirez solo home run on Wednesday in the fourth inning at Bowie.

The B-Mets got on the board in the bottom of the second inning against Erie starter Andrew Kown. Nick Evans led off the inning with a single and he was tripled home by Caleb Stewart for a 1-0 Mets lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, Stewart led off and reached on an error by third baseman Caonabo Cosme. Salomon Manriquez walked with one out and Emmanuel Garcia singled to load the bases for Jose Coronado. Coronado grounded out to Will Rhymes at second and on the play, Stewart scored for a 2-0 Binghamton lead.

The SeaWolves had a chance in the top of the seventh against Binghamton closer Eddie Kunz. Dusty Ryan connected on a bloop single to right with one out and Justin Justice followed with a base hit to right to put the tying runs on base. Jeff Frazier stepped in and hit a high bouncer to third. Third baseman Daniel Murphy leaped and secured the ball, tagged third and threw over to first for the game-ending double play.

Kown (2-4) went 4.2 innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits with a walk and a season-high four strikeouts.
