Trenton responded in the bottom of the fourth against Erie starter Duane Below. Justin Christian and Austin Krum drew back-to-back walks starting the inning. Austin Romine singled home Christian, tying the game at 1-1. Brandon Laird followed with an RBI double, scoring Krum for a 2-1 Trenton lead. With runners on the corners, Daniel Brewer grounded to Nicolas at third, Nicolas threw out Romine trying to score from third for the first out. Anthony Shawler came in and replaced below facing Justin Snyder. Snyder popped up to the right side of the infield on what looked to be the third out, the ball dropped on the infield grass, allowing two more runs to cross the plate, giving Trenton a 5-1 lead.
Erie attempted to mount a comeback in the top of the sixth. With two outs, Nicolas singled to right and was doubled home by Bertram making it 5-2. Burrus followed and turned on a Ryan Pope fastball and hammered it out to left for his fifth home run. The two-run jack made it a 5-4 game.
Trenton would add an insurance run in the eighth to make it 6-4 and would hold on for the win as Eric Wordekemper shut down the side in order in the ninth.
Below (2-4) went 3.2 innings, allowing five runs on three hits with three walks and two strikeouts.
Relievers Anthony Shawler and Brendan Wise combined to allow an unearned run on four hits over the final 4.1 innings of the game.
