Wolves Downed by Battalion

The Sudbury Wolves kicked off their final weekend of the season Thursday night with a visit to their Northern rivals, the North Bay Battalion. This game marked the first of the home and home series which the two squads will wrap up on Friday night at the Sudbury Arena. Wolves goaltender ZACK BOWMAN made a number of big saves throughout the game, but it wasn't enough as the Wolves fell 5-2 to the Battalion.

The Battalion took a 2-0 lead after the opening 20 minutes of the game. Justin Brazeau scored the opening goal for the Battalion just over halfway into the frame. Mike Amadio notched his 49th goal of the season with less than a minute remaining in the first period. Shots on goal after the first were 15 to 8 in favour of the Battalion.

The second period saw a flurry of goals from both teams. The Battalion added two goals within the span of less than a minute to take a 4-0 lead. The Wolves were not going to roll over as COLE MAYO scored his second of the year. ALAN LYSZCZARCZYK and DAVID LEVIN assisted on Mayo's goal. Steve Harland extended the Battalion lead to 5-1 less than five minutes later. LYSZCZARCZYK scored his 16th goal of the year to close the gap to 5-2. The Battalion led shots on goal after two period 33-16.

The third period saw plenty of back and forth action from both teams. Both BOWMAN and Battalion goaltender Jake Smith stood tall in net in the third too keep the period scoreless. The Battalion took the first of the home and home series by a 5-2 final. Shots on goal after the third were 45-20 in favour of the Battalion.

The Wolves will look for revenge tonight at home as they host the Battalion at 7:00pm for their final home game of the season. Tickets are on sale now at the Sudbury Arena Box Office, by calling 705-671-3000 or online at greatersudbury.ca/tickets.
