'Wolves Club a Season-High Four Homers in 9-3 Win

The SeaWolves connected a season-high four home runs as they took down the Portland Sea Dogs 9-3 on Thursday afternoon at Hadlock Field.

The SeaWolves jumped ahead in the first inning against Sea Dogs starter Mitch Atkins. Anthony Gose led off the game with a solo home run to center, his second, giving Erie a 1-0 lead. With two outs, Jason Krizan crushed a solo home run to right for a 2-0 lead. The home run for Krizan was his ninth which established a new career-high.

Erie added to the lead in the third. Kody Eaves led off with a walk and moved to third on a Gose double. Gustavo Nunez grounded out, scoring Eaves for a 3-0 lead. With two outs, Krizan singled home Gose making it 4-0 SeaWolves.

Portland cut into the Erie lead in the bottom of the third against Erie starter Tommy Collier when Danny Bethea led off the inning with a solo home run to left.

In the last of the fourth, the Sea Dogs made it a two-run game. Cody Decker led off the inning with a triple and came home to score on a Rainel Rosario groundout.

Erie went back ahead by three runs in the top of the fifth. Mike Gerber walked with one out and stole second. He scored on a two-out Corey Jones base hit to make it 5-2.

In the sixth, the SeaWolves added to the lead against Portland reliever Jake Drehoff . With one out, Grayson Greiner crushed a solo home run, his third, over the "Maine Monster" in left for a 6-2 lead.

With two outs, Gose doubled for this third hit of the game and came home to score on a Nunez base hit making it 7-2.

The 'Wolves continued to build on the lead in the seventh. Jones walked with one out, stole second and scored on a Connor Harrell base hit making it 8-2.

Erie took a 9-2 lead in the top of the eighth when Eaves belted a solo home run to right. It was his sixth of the season and it gave the SeaWolves a season-high four home runs.

Portland would get a run in the last of the eighth against reliever Paul Voelker when Cole Sturgeon connected on a two-out, solo home run making it 9-3.

Angel Nesbitt tossed a scoreless ninth, preserving the Erie win.

Tommy Shirley (1-0) earned the win in relief for Erie. He tossed two scoreless innings in relief of Collier allowing two hits with a walk and three strikeouts.

Atkins (3-6) took the loss for the Sea Dogs allowing five runs on six hits with four walks and seven strikeouts in five innings.

The SeaWolves open a three-game series against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Friday in Manchester, NH. RHP Tyler Alexander makes his Double-A debut against RHP Taylor Cole (2-4, 4.23 ERA).
