January 7, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Connecticut Whale News Release

Winnipeg, Manitoba, January 7, 2009: Defenseman Nolan Baumgartner's goal at 4:58 of overtime gave the Manitoba Moose a 3-2 victory over the Hartford Wolf Pack Wednesday at the MTS Centre.

Baumgartner rushed the puck down right wing and slid a shot toward the net that slipped through both Wolf Pack defenseman Brian Fahey and goaltender Miika Wiikman, and went inside the left post.

After a scoreless first period in which both teams had 10 shots, it took until the 13:46 of the second frame for the game's first goal. The Wolf Pack's Mike Ouellette broke the scoreless tie with a low shot past Manitoba goaltender Cory Schneider, after a backhand pass off right wing from Jordan Owens. The Wolf Pack enjoyed a 10-4 shots advantage in the second.

Jason Krog tied the game 5:45 into the third period, tipping Zack FitzGerald's shot past Wiikman's glove side. Manitoba native Brodie Dupont put the Wolf Pack back on top at 9:02 with a power-play goal, as he one-timed a pass from P.A. Parenteau into the net from the right-wing circle. That lead lasted only 29 seconds, though, as Jannik Hansen split the Wolf Pack defense and beat Wiikman one-on-one at 9:31 to tie the score at two.

The Wolf Pack outshot the Moose 35-22 in the game, including a combined 21-10 in the second and third periods.

The overtime loss ran the Wolf Pack's season record to 18-15-2-3 for 41 points.
