WNY Lacrosse Rivalry Takes Center Stage

April 6, 2016 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Rochester Knighthawks News Release

After a bye weekend, the Rochester Knighthawks are back in action on Saturday, April 9th as they travel to play the rival Buffalo Bandits. The game, which features two of the top teams in the East Division, will face off at 7:30 p.m. at the First Niagara Center.

The contest is the second of three meetings this season between the two WNY lacrosse rivals. Rochester leads the all-time series against Buffalo with a 34-23 record. With two of their final five games against Buffalo, the Knighthawks (6-7) can still challenge the Bandits (9-4) for the regular season crown.

Attack of the Lefties: The Knighthawks added three lefty forwards last week, signing Ty Thompson and acquiring Josh Gillam and Joe "Haodais" Maracle. Thompson made his pro debut on February 19th and has a wealth of talent, which was evident in his collegiate career at the University at Albany. Gillam is in his fourth season in the NLL and had six points in two games with Georgia this season. Maracle, who broke into the NLL with the Swarm in 2015, has excelled at the junior level, winning four championships.

Mega Months of March: Last month, Dan Dawson and Cody Jamieson both posted 31 points in six games. Dawson scored 13 goals, including one game-winner, and added 18 assists, while Jamieson connected for 11 goals and dished out 20 assists. Stephen Keogh led Rochester with 19 goals and chipped in seven assists to register his finest month of the season.

Jamieson Hits 500-Point Plateau: Cody Jamieson picked up two points on March 26th to become only the third Knighthawk to reach 500 career points, joining Shawn Williams and John Grant Jr.

Sid passes a Legend: On March 26th, Sid Smith moved ahead of Hall of Famer Pat Cougevan for ninth place on the team's all-time games played list.

Rochester's Ironman: Dan Dawson is closing in on Shawn Williams' NLL Ironman record of 230 consecutive games played. He needs just three games to surpass the former Knighthawk

and Bandit. Dawson is set to break the record on April 23rd, when Rochester hosts Buffalo. The 15-year pro began his streak back on March 9, 2002 when he played for the Columbus Landsharks.

Broadcast Details: The game this week will be broadcast on 107.3 The Bull. Fans can listen to the contest on their mobile devices and computers by downloading the iHeartRadio app at iHeartRadio.com. The game will also be carried live on FOX Sports GO.

Next Home Game: Rochester will kick off a three-game homestand on Saturday, April 16th when it hosts the Georgia Swarm at 7:30 p.m. That night, the Knighthawks will hold their annual Military Appreciation Night. The Knighthawks will wear special military-themed jerseys, which will be auctioned off with the net proceeds going to the Veterans Outreach Center (VOC). The Knighthawks will also donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of special military-themed Knighthawks T-shirts to the VOC. As a special tribute to the troops, all military members, veterans, and reservists can receive one complimentary ticket to the game.

Milestone Watch:

- Mike Hasen is three games shy of reaching 100 in his coaching career.

- Dan Dawson (220) needs three assists to pass Mike Accursi (222) to move into fourth place on the team's all-time assist list.

- Dawson is three away from reaching 231 straight games to become the league's Ironman.
