Dakota Wizards News Release
Bismarck, N.D. - Mike Anderson swished a fade away baseline jumper in
overtime to send the game into double overtime where the Dakota Wizards went 10-10 from the
free throw line to seal a 113-109 double overtime victory over the Tulsa 66ers. Anderson led the
way for the Wizards scoring 24 points on 11-20 shooting from the field. He snagged 6 rebounds
to go with his 24 points.
Dakota came ready to play Friday night at the Bismarck Civic Center as they grabbed a lead
early in the game against Tulsa and cruised through much of the game. Poor shooting by the
66ers in the first quarter allowed the Wizards to take a 30-23 lead after the first. Newly acquired
Patrick Sanders entered the game for the Wizards in the second quarter and went perfect from the
floor, scoring 7 points in the quarter to help build the Wizards lead to 19. Tulsa ended the half on
a 7-2 run to cut the Wizards lead to 14 heading into the locker rooms.
The Wizards led by 11 heading into the final frame and would have that same lead with 3:04 left
in the game. Tulsa would hit back to back 3-pointers and go on an 11-0 run to tie the game as
time expired. Curtis Sumpter hit a big 3 point basket with 12.7 seconds left in the first overtime
to put the 66ers up by 2. Dakota called a quick timeout with 0.9 seconds left in the game and a 2
point deficit. Anderson was able to catch and shoot the in-bounce pass and found nothing but net
to send the game into double overtime. In the second overtime, Dakota grabbed the lead on 2
Justin Johnson free throws and sealed the deal at the free throw line claiming the 4 point victory.
Five other Wizards players finished the game in double figures behind Anderson. Shy Ely tallied
17 points while Edwin Ubiles had 16, Curtis Withers scored 15, Justin Johnson ended with14,
and Maurice Baker tossed in 10.
Dwight Buycks and Jerome Dyson led the way for the visiting Tulsa 66ers with 24 and 23 points
respectively.
Dakota climbs to 8-9 on the season while Tulsa dropped to 10-9.
