Dakota Wizards News Release

Bismarck, N.D. (September 22, 2010) - The Dakota Wizards received the 9th pick in the 2010 NBA Development League Draft through a lottery conducted Tuesday at the annual coaches meetings in Dallas. The Draft will take place via teleconference on Monday, Nov.1 at the League's headquarters in New York.

The Reno Bighorns received the first overall pick in the draft. The New Mexico Thunderbirds will pick second, while the Maine Red Claws, Texas Legends and Springfield Armor round out the top five. The Iowa Energy will pick sixth followed by the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, Utah Flash, Dakota Wizards, Fort Wayne Mad Ants, Sioux Falls Skyforce, Bakersfield Jam, Tulsa 66ers, Austin Toros, Erie BayHawks and the Idaho Stampede.

The draft is "serpentine" or "snaked" which means the order will be reversed in each of the eight rounds. For example, the Idaho Stampede will pick last in the first round and pick first in the second round.

"The lottery is always an exciting time because it signals the tip-off of a new NBA D-League season," said Chris Alpert, Vice President of Basketball Operations and Player Personnel for the NBA D-League. "With the Draft order in place, teams are one step closer to determining their opening day rosters for the 2010-11 season."

In addition to the 9th overall pick, Dakota will also select 24th, 41st, 56th, 73rd, 88th, 105th, and 120th, overall in the 128-player draft.

Season tickets and 5-ticket flex packs for the 2010-11 season are on sale. Single game tickets will go on sale in early November. The home opener is set for Friday, Nov. 19 against the Iowa Energy. For more information contact the Dakota Wizards at (701) 258-2255.
