Witherspoon Leads Travelers to Win

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Travis Witherspoon finished a triple short of the cycle while driving in five runs as the Arkansas Travelers defeated the Northwest Arkansas Naturals 8-3 in the middle game of a three-game series on Tuesday.

The Naturals took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a Jorge Bonifacio two-run double in his first at-bat with the club. Bonifacio went one-for-four in his first Double-A game.

Arkansas got on the board in the second inning thanks to a Witherspoon double that plated Kaleb Cowart. Lane Adams got the run back for the Naturals in the third on his first Double-A homer, giving the Naturals a 3-1 lead.

Witherspoon put the Travs ahead for good thanks to a three-run home run in the fourth inning with two outs off of Naturals starter Andy Ferguson. North Little Rock added a run in the fifth via a Randal Grichuk double and three runs in the sixth on a single, sacrifice fly and double. Witherspoon went three-for-four with a single, double and home run.

Juan Graterol went three-for-four with three singles to lead the Naturals offense. Adams went two-for-three with a home run and single. The Naturals were held to six hits on the night.

Brandon Hynick earned his 10th win of the season, allowing three runs, one earned, on four hits with four walks and five strikeouts in six innings.

Ferguson was charged with his fourth loss of 2013, allowing five runs on six hits with one walk and five strikeouts in 4.1 innings.

The Naturals and Travelers conclude their three-game series tomorrow night at 7:10 p.m. Brooks Pounders (4-6, 4.61 ERA) will start for the Naturals. Drew Carpenter (2-1, 1.85 ERA) is scheduled to start for Arkansas.
