Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
EASTLAKE, OH - Joantgel Segovia had a big night in the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 6-0 win over the Lake County Captains at Classic Park on Thursday night. The Wisconsin outfielder went 3-for-3 with a double, two stolen bases, his first professional home run, and five RBI to provide the offense. A trio of Timber Rattlers hurlers combined on the eight-hit shutout.
Ryan Aguilar started the Wisconsin second inning with a triple, but he was still at third base with two outs. Then, Segovia came through with a single to get Aguilar home for a 1-0 lead.
The Rattlers (15-16) added to their lead in the third inning. Mario Feliciano drew a leadoff walk and moved to third on an errant pickoff throw. Tucker Neuhaus drove in Feliciano with a grounder to short.
Segovia struck again in the top of the fourth to extend the Wisconsin lead. Lake County starting pitcher Justin Garza allowed a leadoff walk to Ronnie Gideon and a hit-and-run single by Jonathan Oquendo to put runners on the corners with one out. Segovia lifted a high fly ball down the line in left field. The ball was called fair for a three-run home run.
Lake County manager Larry Day rushed out to argue with plate umpire Robert Nunez and was ejected before Segovia could complete his jog around the bases.
The Rattlers got a final run with two outs in the top of the eighth inning. Gilbert Lara double to extend the inning to Segovia. The hot-hitting Segovia cracked a double to left-center to drive in Lara to become the first Timber Rattler this season to have five RBI in a game.
The Captains (13-20) had eight hits in the game, but could not solve any of the three Wisconsin pitchers on the night.
Zack Brown, who was making his first appearance since Opening Night on April 6, made the start and struck out three over two scoreless innings before leaving on his pitch count.
Jordan Desguin was next on the mound for the Rattlers and he picked up the victory with five scoreless innings. He scattered four hits without a walk or a strikeout.
Andrew Vernon closed out the game with two scoreless frames and three strikeouts.
Game two of the series is scheduled for Friday night at Classic Park. Thomas Jankins (1-2, 3.82) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Juan Hillman (1-3, 9.41) is set to start for the Captains. Game time is 5:30pm CDT.
The radio broadcast is on AM1280, WNAM starting with the Potawatomi Hotel & Casino Pregame Show at 5:10pm. The broadcast is also available on TuneIn Radio and IHeartRadio.
