Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

CLINTON, IA - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers defeated the Clinton LumberKings 7-4 on Friday night at Ashford University Field. Rattlers starter Zack Brown earned his second straight victory with six solid innings and the offense provided plenty of early run support with six runs in the first three innings. The win came in the first game of a four-game series with Clinton.

Wisconsin (22-23) got out to a fast start with two runs in the top of the first inning. Caleb Whalen and Joantgel Segovia singled to start the inning. Monte Harrison grounded into a force play at second, but would steal second to put two runners in scoring position for Tucker Neuhaus. The Rattlers second baseman cracked a double up the first base line to drive in both Whalen and Harrison for a 2-0 advantage.

Ronnie Gideon started the Wisconsin second inning with a line drive home run over the wall in left-center. The blast was Gideon's first home run of the season.

The Rattlers made it 6-0 in the top of the third inning. Neuhaus drove in the first run of the inning with a double. Then, Clinton starting pitcher Nick Wells walked Demi Orimoloye to load the bases. Jose Cuas drew a walk to force in a run and that was the end of the night for Wells. Nathan Rodriguez plated the Rattlers final run of the inning with an RBI grounder.

Clinton (18-27) got on the board in the bottom of the third. Brown struck out Gareth Morgan to start the inning, but a dropped third strike allowed Morgan to reach. Luis Liberato followed with an RBI triple. Rayder Ascanio drove in Liberato with a sacrifice fly and the LumberKings cut their deficit to four.

Wisconsin pushed their lead back out to five in the top of the fourth. Caleb Whalen reached second base on a throwing error and moved to second on a grounder. Harrison sent Whalen home with a sacrifice fly to the track in left-center.

Harrison has driven in at least one run for the Timber Rattlers in four straight games.

Brown pitched through the sixth and retired the final twelve batters he faced before turning the ball over to the bullpen to start the seventh. Brown allowed two runs on three hits, didn't walk a batter, and struck out six.

Aaron Myers took over for Brown and pitched two scoreless innings. In the ninth, Anthony Jimenez hit a two-run home run with no outs off of Myers to bring the LumberKings to within three runs. A one-out single and a two-out walk brought Liberato to the plate as the potential tying run, but Myers retired Liberato on a liner to Neuhaus at second to end the game.

Game two of the series is set for Saturday night. Thomas Jankins (2-3, 4.65) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Ljay Newsome (4-3, 4.40) has been named as the starter for Clinton. Game time is 6:30pm.

The radio broadcast is on AM1280, WNAM starting with the Potawatomi Hotel & Casino Pregame Show at 6:10pm. The broadcast is also available on TuneIn Radio and IHeartRadio,
