Winterhawks Win Sixth Straight with 4-1 Victory in Everett

The Portland Winterhawks (22-4-1-0) won their sixth straight game with a 4-1 victory in Everett over the Silvertips (11-18-0-2) Saturday night.

Portland got on the board early when defenseman Derrick Pouliot scored a power play goal 2:17 into the game for an early 1-0 lead. Midway through the frame Tyler Wotherspoon scored on a shot from the neutral zone to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead they took into the second period.

Brendan Leipsic then extended his point streak to 15 games just 1:35 into the second period with his 16th goal of the season to put the Hawks up 3-0. The Hawks continued to apply pressure, and Ty Rattie scored at the 19:41 mark of the frame to give Portland a 4-0 lead going into the third period.

Everett got on the board 13:29 into the third on a goal by Cole MacDonald to make it 4-1 The Silvertips then had a chance to make it a two-goal game when Manraj Hayer was awarded a penalty shot a little later in the frame, but Hawks netminder Brendan Burke turned away the attempt to keep the score 4-1, which ended up as the final.

Burke earned his seventh win of the season with 29 saves on 30 shots. Everett's Daniel Cotton made 30 saves on 34 Portland shots.

With a goal, Leipsic extended his point streak to 15 games, with 13 goals and 22 assists for 35 points during his point streak.

Rattie's goal and assist Saturday gave him points in 20 of his last 21 games, including six straight multi-point games, with 17 goals and 24 assists for 41 points in that span.

Portland was 1-5 on the power play and a perfect 4-4 on the penalty kill.

The Hawks and Silvertips will meet again Tuesday night in Portland at Veterans Memorial Coliseum at 7 p.m.
