KENT - The Portland Winterhawks defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 5-3 Friday night at ShoWare Center in Kent.

The T-Birds face the Tri-City Americans on Saturday at ShoWare Center at 7:05pm.

Portland (42-7-1-2) took a 1-0 lead at 6:48 of the first period on a goal from Brendan Leipsic. Ty Rattie and Nic Petan had the assists.

Seattle (19-29-3-1) took a 2-1 lead with two goals in 30 seconds by the line of Roberts Lipsbergs, Alexander Delnov and Connor Honey. Lipsbergs tried to center the puck from the left corner to Alexander Delnov on top of the crease. Delnov was tied up by a Portland defender and the puck deflected to Connor Honey in the slot. Lipsbergs carried the puck up the right boards and then cycled it low to Honey in the corner. Honey found Delnov alone in front of Burke. Delnov, with time, controlled the puck and then put it over Burke's blocker for the go-ahead goal.

Petan scored a power-play goal at 10:52 of the third period to extend the Winterhawks lead to 5-2. Leipsic and Rattie had the assists.

Shea Theodore was able to capitalize by beating Burke with a slap shot from just inside the blue line at center ice. Jesse Forsberg and Luke Lockhart had the assists on the goal that came at 18:178 of the third.
