WINSTON-SALEM DASH: Dash Drop Rain-Shortened Rubber Match

Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Dash could not solve Buies Creek starter Matt Bower, who spun a rain-shortened complete game shutout in a 2-0, six-inning Astros victory at BB&T Ballpark on Thursday night.

Bower (1-0) set down the first 10 Dash batters he faced before allowing a one-out walk to Landon Lassiter in the fourth. Winston-Salem (7-14) would remain hitless until the fifth inning, as Toby Thomas roped a sharp single to left with one down. Thomas advanced to second on a Danny Mendick single to right-center, but Bower induced a fly ball from Jake Fincher to end the threat.

Lassiter was the lone Dash batter to reach twice in the contest after doubling in the sixth, but he was stranded at third after consecutive groundouts to short to end the inning.

Buies Creek (14-7) tallied runs in the first and fourth frames. Johnny Sewald scored on a sacrifice fly in the opening inning, while Osvaldo Duarte drove in Pat Porter with an RBI single in the fourth.

After a few innings of steady rain, the precipitation finally became too much at the conclusion of the sixth. Following a 32-minute delay, the game was declared official due to persistent inclement weather in the area.

Luis Basabe, who went 0-for-3 in today's contest, saw his 10-game hit streak, the longest by a Dash hitter thus far this season, come to a close.

Aron McRee (0-3) tossed 3.2 innings and struck out three while allowing the only two runs of the contest. Drew Hasler provided 2.1 innings of scoreless relief, fanning two while giving up just one hit.

The Dash hit the road Friday for their longest trip of the season, a 10-day stretch where they will square off against the Down East Wood Ducks, Lynchburg Hillcats and Salem Red Sox. Dash southpaw Tanner Banks (3-0, 1.38 ERA) toes the slab against a Wood Ducks starter that has yet to be determined in the series opener on Friday. Following this extended getaway, the Dash return home from May 9-11 for a quick three-game stretch at BB&T Ballpark against one of their division rivals, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. For tickets to this series or any game, call (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com.
