Winning Streak Comes To An End As T-Birds Fall To Vipers

MCALLEN, TEXAS, Jan. 14, 2010 - The Albuquerque Thunderbirds fell to the Rio Grande Vipers on Thursday night, 103-79, snapping the team's six game winning streak. The loss is the T-Birds first since Dec. 31, 2009.

Albuquerque connected on only 27.9% of its shots in the first half, and trailed 48-32 at the break. Rio Grande Valley pushed the lead to 82-53 at the end of the third quarter, as Albuquerque continued to struggle from the field.

The T-Birds never got on track, and trailed by as many as 31 in the second half. The team shot a season low 32.9% from the field for the game, compared to 49.3% for Rio Grande Valley. .

Kurt Looby posted his second double double in as many days, with 11 points and 15 rebounds. He also added a game high 5 blocks.

Carlos Powell led the T-Birds with 20 points. Kris Collins (13) and Antoine Agudio (10) also scored in double figures for Albuquerque.

Rio Grande Valley's Mike Harris led all scorers with 28 points. Garrett Temple added 15 for the Vipers.

The 79 points is the fewest that Albuquerque has scored in a game this season.

Albuquerque will continue its road trip against the Eastern Conference leading Iowa Energy on Sunday afternoon. The game will tip-off at 3 pm MST, and fans can either listen in on 1050 KTBL or watch the action live on NBA Futurecast.
