Wichita Wings News Release

WICHITA, Kan. - The Wichita Wings of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) won in style tonight, defeating the Norfolk SharX with a final score of 16-11.

Norfolk Forward Marcello Alves stuck first blood in the game scoring a swift 2 point goal 1:24 into the game, but Wings Midfielder Bryan Perez made no hesitation to answer quickly, scoring within 40 seconds to tie the game.

The Wings didn't stop there, piling on consecutive goals by Carlos "Chile" Farias (3 points) and Alargie Jobe (2 points) to put the Wings up 7-2 at the end of the first quarter. The game went scoreless in the second quarter, keeping Wichita to a 7-2 lead going into the half.

In terms of scoring, the third quarter looked nothing like the second. Wichita scored two early goals in concession; Wings Defender Kevin Ten Eyck made a sliding score into the boards, getting one past SharX Goalkeeper Jamie Lieberman, followed by a quick Jamar Beasley 3 pointer to put the Wings up 12-2.

Following the Beasley goal, Norfolk Midfielder Miguel Ferrer and Defender Brady Brant scored consecutive 2 and 3 point goals bringing the score to 12-7. Once again, Beasley struck back with a quick goal, his second of the evening, to put the Wings in a 14-7 lead going into the fourth quarter.

3:10 in the fourth Wings Defender Brian Cushing added himself onto the list of Wings scorers for the evening, putting his team up 16-7. Norfolk responded with two goals by Matt Delicate and Marcello Alves to put the SharX behind by only 4, but the late surge was too little too late. The Wings walked away with the win in a final score of 16-11.

Post game, Wings Head Coach LeBaron Hollimon spoke about the team's first win of the seasons. "You couldn't ask for a better night then tonight. You have to give all the credit in the world to Norfolk, they played a great game and kept us on our feet until the very end. Both of these teams played physical hard games tonight, and we're honored to come out with the win."

The Wings return to action on Sunday, playing on the road against the Milwaukee Wave. That game kicks off at 3:00pm (CT), and can be caught on Wichita's KGSO 1410 AM.
