Aberdeen Wings News Release

Weekend Recap

The Aberdeen Wings were looking to close out their 2012-2013 season in style this past weekend. Riding a league high 8 game winning streak the Wings had a home and home series with instate rivals the Brookings Blizzard. Friday night the Wings traveled down to Brookings where they were greeted by a few hundred Wings fans that made the 2 1/2 hour trip down South. Aberdeen would use their crowd support to strike first when Jordan Heller found the back of the net at the 10:22 mark of the 1st period with assists going to Peter Krieger and Dylan Dailey. Unfortunately for the Wings that would be all the offense for the game as Brooking was able to score 2 in the 2nd and add an empty netter to win and snap the streak. In goal for the Wings was Zach Nagelvoort who kept things interesting stopping 26 of the 28 shots he faced.

Saturday night the Wings were back home at the Odde in front of a record crowd of over 1,600. The Wings would not disappoint. Erik Baskin stayed hot at home when he got the Wings on the board with a power play goal at the 4:12 mark of the 1st period with assists going to Kyle Haak and Dylan Dailey. Zach Doerring would make is a 2-0 lead just 3 minutes later when he was able to put home a rebound off the stick of Baskin and Jonathan Grebosky. The two teams would trade goals in the 2nd period, Steven Johnson would score once again on the power play for Aberdeen. Assisting on the Johnson goal were Jake Horton and Grebosky. In the 3rd was all Aberdeen as Colton Kramer scored another power play goal midway through the final frame with assists going to Dailey and Liam McGing. Capping off the scoring just over a minute later and once again on the power play was Jordan Heller with Horton and Justin Parizek getting the assists. Chad Catt was in goal for the Wings and recorded 46 saves on 47 shots! For their efforts Dylan Dailey and Chad Catt were named NAHL Central Division honorable Mention Stars of the Week! More awards came to Aberdeen goaltender Zach Nagelvoort as the season came to a close. Thursday he was names NAHL Central Division Goaltender of the Month! Zach posted a record of 6-1-1 stopping 221 of the 231 shots he faced in the month. "Zach came in and immediately injected the team with confidence. He is a very confident goaltender and person and it rubbed off on the rest of the team. We know we have a chance to win every night when he is in goal and during the last two months of the season, that was the mindset in every game and one of the reasons the team played so well."

-Head Coach Travis Winter.
