Wichita Wingnuts News Release

WICHITA, Kans. - The Wichita Wingnuts continued to add to their complement of arms for the 2017 season, re-signing right-handed pitcher Eddie Medina on Tuesday.

The upcoming season will be Medina's third in a Wingnuts uniform, and his fifth overall as a professional. Last year the 27-year old went 6-6 in 14 starts, finishing with a 5.56 earned run average in 100.1 innings. Medina also made six appearances out of the bullpen, including three scoreless innings in game three of the Championship Series against Winnipeg, which earned him the win.

After wrapping up his collegiate career at St. John's in 2012, Medina latched on with the Las Vegas Train Robbers of the Pecos League and produced an impressive pro debut, going 4-1 with a 3.95 ERA in 10 starts. The righty continued to pitch well in 2014, splitting time between Brownsville and Fort Worth of the United League and registering a 5-3 combined record, along with a career-best 3.36 ERA.

Following one appearance with the Atlantic League's York Revolution in 2015, Medina joined the Wingnuts in the midst of an August road trip and paid immediate dividends. The Staten Island, N.Y., native picked up the win in his first four starts, including seven shutout innings in a 6-0 victory over the Laredo Lemurs. Medina ultimately finished the year 4-1, with 29 strikeouts in 46.0 innings of work.

Medina is the 19th player to sign with the Wingnuts for the upcoming season. American Association clubs may carry up to 28 players during spring training, which opens on May 6.
