Texas AirHogs News Release

AMARILLO, Texas - The Wichita Wingnuts downed the AirHogs 10-2 in 8 innings in the 1st of a 4-game set at Potter County Memorial Stadium Thursday. The visitors used a 7-run top of the 5th inning to fuel the win, their 4th straight and 6th on the road this season.

RHP Cody Hebner started on the hill for the AirHogs. He surrendered a leadoff triple to 2B Christian Stringer, who would score later in the top of the 1st on an RBI groundout to make it 1-0.

The AirHogs tied it on an RBI base hit by DH Will DuPont in the botttom of the 2nd. DuPont's 2-out line drive helped net him his 3rd RBI of the year. He has hit safely in 6 straight contests.

The Wingnuts reclaimed the lead on a sacrifice fly RBI by DH Brent Clevlen and an RBI triple by LF TJ Mittelstaedt that made it 3-1 in the top of the 3rd. The AirHogs got 1 back in the bottom of the 4th on an RBI base hit by Brian Bistagne that scored RF Cody Lenahan for the 2nd time.

Leading 3-2 going to the 5th, the Wingnuts, who entered play leading the American Association in batting average, broke it open. Facing Hebner and relief man Cody Boutte, they sent 12 to the plate in the 5th and benefitted from 5 hits, 3 walks, a hit-by-pitch and an error to score 7 times and take a 10-2 advantage.

Lightning began to flash well outside the stadium halfway through the game and rain began to fall as the teams began the 9th with the score 10-2. Conditions became unplayable in the bottom of the 9th, and after a delay of approximately 40 minutes, the contest was called, with the scoresheet reverting to the last completed full inning.

Hebner took the loss, while Wichita starter Alex Boshers, who allowed 2 runs and 8 hits over 6 innings, picked up the win. AirHogs left fielder Burt Reynolds finished 3 for 4.

The AirHogs (9-12) will meet the Wingnuts (10-11) again tomorrow at 7:05 at Potter County Memorial Stadium. Texas is expected to start LHP Griffin Russell.
