Wichita Wingnuts News Release

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Wichita Wingnuts lost their season-high fourth consecutive game Monday, as they were blanked 7-0 by the St. Paul Saints at CHS Field.

The Saints (56-32) broke the ice in the second, drawing four straight walks against Anthony Capra (0-3) to begin the frame and take an early 1-0 lead. One out later, Alonzo Harris doubled that advantage with a sacrifice fly.

Tony Thomas made it a three-run game in the third, hitting a solo home run for his 12th long ball of the season.

St. Paul knocked Capra from the contest in the fourth, and scored two more on a sacrifice fly by Breland Almadova and RBI single by Thomas.

Behind Capra, Jesse Pratt came in for Wichita (52-35), and worked four innings, allowing a pair of runs. Both runs allowed by Pratt came on home runs, as the Saints tacked on solo shots from Harris in the sixth, and Tony Caldwell in the seventh.

Wichita's offense struggled mightily on the night against Robert Coe (11-2). The righty allowed six hits in eight innings, and set a new season-high with nine strikeouts. The Wingnuts had two innings in the contest where they had multiple base runners, with a pair of singles in the third, and a walk and single in the eighth. Only one Wingnut reached base more than once, as Christian Stringer went 1-for-3 plus a walk.

In the ninth, Benji Waite came on for Coe, and closed it down by retiring Wichita in order, sending the Wingnuts to their season-high fourth consecutive loss, and their fourth shutout loss of the season.

The Wingnuts and Saints continue their three-game set Tuesday afternoon at CHS Field. Right-hander Alex Boshers (10-3, 3.46) will be on the mound for Wichita, while St. Paul will counter with southpaw Corey Williams (1-1, 2.76). First pitch is set for 12:05, and the game can be heard on 1410 AM KGSO, as well as on TuneIn.
