Wichita Wingnuts News Release

WINGNUTS ROUT SAINTS

The Wichita Wingnuts emphatically ended their season-high four-game losing streak Tuesday, routing the St. Paul Saints 11-1 at CHS Field. The Wingnuts took advantage of three walks to plate a pair of runs in the opening inning, as Matt Chavez and Richard Prigatano each drew bases loaded free passes. Wichita doubled their advantage in the third, as Brent Dean and Leo Vargas hit back-to-back run-scoring singles with two down. The big frame was the fifth, as Wichita plated five. Chavez got it going with a two-run single, Nick Van Stratten singled in a run, Vargas drew a bases loaded walk, and Christian Stringer brought in the final tally with a sacrifice fly. The lead ballooned to 10 in the seventh, as Brennen Salgado notched a sacrifice fly. After a Trever Adams solo homer accounted for St. Paul's only run of the game in the home half, Wichita pushed the lead back to double figures on a second run-scoring single by Van Stratten in the ninth. The 11 runs were plenty for Alex Boshers, who allowed one run in seven innings to tie for the league lead with his 11th win of the year.

BOSHERS DOES IT AGAIN

When the Wingnuts needed a big start to try and stop their four-game skid, Alex Boshers delivered yesterday, allowing one run on six hits in seven innings in the win over St. Paul. The righty has won seven of his last eight starts and eight decisions in a row overall to bring him into a tie for the most wins in the league with 11. Boshers has tossed 10 quality starts in his 14 outings since joining the rotation in June, and Wichita is 12-2 in games that he starts on the mound. The Nashville, Tenn., native now owns a 3.32 ERA in 111.0 innings this year, the ninth-lowest among qualified pitchers in the American Association.

A BALANCED ATTACK

Wichita got contributions up and down the lineup Tuesday, as nine of the 10 who received an at-bat collected at least one hit. Brent Clevlen led the way with three hits and three runs scored, while Brent Dean, Christian Stringer, and Nick Van Stratten had two knocks apiece. Matt Chavez led the charge in RBIs with three, while Leo Vargas and Van Stratten each drove in a pair of runs on the afternoon.
